Mark Taylor

April 8, 1973 — October 21, 2015

Mark Stephen Taylor was born April 8, 1973 in Nuremberg, Germany, the son of Stephen and Shirley Taylor. He passed away on October 21, 2015 from complications following lung surgery. He was reared in Holladay, Utah and was a graduate of Olympus High School and the University of Utah.
From birth, Mark was endowed with great energy and zest for life. His enthusiasm and independent spirit blessed all who knew him. When Mark was around there was always fun to be had.
His greatest passion and accomplishment in life was his family. On January 5, 1999 he married Elissa Wickens in the Jordan River Temple. Mark and Elissa are parents to two beautiful children, Ezekiel and Libby.
Ever creative, Mark was interested in literally everything. He loved sports and was a talented athlete. At Olympus he played football and was an All-State performer in track as a high jumper. This talent landed him a scholarship to the University of Utah. Hobbies included reading, boating and water skiing, snow skiing, rock climbing, tennis and golf. Mark loved and had aptitude for everything musical. He was a talented drummer and in college sang with the Sigma Chi Quartette. Mark loved the outdoors and seized every opportunity to camp and hunt with his many friends. He loved to travel and was always planning the next trip with family or friends.
In 2003, Mark and Elissa moved to Las Vegas and Mark began his career in real estate. While working full-time he managed to travel back and forth to Chicago to complete an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, graduating with honors. He subsequently realized his dream of having his own real estate finance company with the formation of Taylor Capital Group. Shortly thereafter he partnered with his good friend, Rocky Derrick to form Taylor Derrick Capital. Their mantra was absolute honor, integrity and transparency in everything they did.
Mark was devoted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a scholarly teacher of its precepts. His service in the Hawaii Honolulu Mission was a foundation for his life. At his passing he was serving as a counselor in the bishopric of the Arroyo Grande Ward in Henderson Nevada.
Perhaps his greatest gift was his capacity for friendship. He loved people and formed close, lasting friendships wherever he went. People were drawn to him because of his wit, his warmth and his personable spirit. These great gifts he has given us will be with us always.
Mark is survived by his wife, Elissa, children, Ezekiel and Libby, his parents, Steve and Shirley, his siblings, Doug (Cinda), Natalie (Daren) Watts, Sara (Grant) Madsen, Andrew (fiancé, Meagan), parents-in-law Ron and Christine Snyder, brothers-in-law Jason (Stephanie) Wickens, Darin Wickens, Matthew (Cassandra) Snyder, Jeffrey (Roxanne) Snyder, sisters-in-law Amberly (Brad) Harris, Erica Pullan, Melissa Snyder, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
