Mark Hintze

January 9, 1957 — April 23, 2018

On Monday April 23, 2018 Mark Halliday Hintze 61, passed away in his home with his loving wife right by his side, and his children near.  Mark’s life was a miracle, and he beat the odds at every turn, after battling a very rare form of leukemia.  Mark endured valiantly to the end, and he has won and passed the test.
Mark was born on January 9, 1957 in Salt Lake City to Glenn Jay Hintze and Ann Halliday.  He has been married to the love of his life Robyn Petersen Hintze for the last 43 years.  Their greatest joys and treasures together are their 4 amazing children Chad, Wendy, Brandon, and Amanda.
Mark has always had a very special light, and unique spirit about him since the day he was born.  Even as a little boy he had a love and  zest for people and for life. Mark always wanted to be a cowboy, and insisted on being called Roy Rogers Hintze, and he would get very upset when anyone would call him by his real name. His excitement and appreciation for the little things in this world was contagious.
Mark loved being in the great outdoors and enjoying all of God’s beautiful creations.  If there was an adventure to be found, you better believe Mark Hintze would be first in line.  Whether it was hunting, fishing, skydiving, skiing, paragliding, running marathons, or scuba diving, he lived every moment to the fullest. He excelled and enjoyed every sport imaginable! The ones he loved most were volleyball and basketball.
Mark was blessed with many talents and he thoroughly enjoyed sharing those talents with all of those around him.  He was reMARKable in every way possible.   He had an incredible love of music and poetry.  He especially enjoyed playing the piano and singing.  Some of his families favorite memories were when Mark would play his guitar around the campfire and sing.  He knew the words to every song, and he had the personality that would get everyone to join in and sing along.
Mark loved and served his Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ every single day of his life.  Mark was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He served in numerous callings throughout his life, and he magnified every single one of them.  One of his favorite callings was being the Bishop of his ward for 7 years.  The youth and the primary children gravitated towards Mark, and they could feel of his Christlike love for them.  Mark was the glue that held everyone together. He looked forward each year to play Santa Clause and loved seeing the sparkle in everyone’s eyes, young and old, and the excitement on their faces.
Mark worked in construction and was over many important and detailed projects.  In his time working in the industry he was able to help build temples, which gave him a deep sense of satisfaction, pride, and joy.
But the greatest joy of his life was his sweetheart and very best friend Robyn.  The two were always inseparable, where you would see one, you would find the other.  Mark felt so blessed that his sweetheart was his devoted caretaker.  And Robyn felt more than honored to be able to care for him.  He had an extremely difficult time leaving  her, theirs is a true love story that will never end.
His family was his most prized possession that he had in this world.  Mark always put them first and they never for a second questioned his love or devotion to them.  He had such a gentle way about him, and he always expressed his feelings of love and gratitude.  He was generous in his words and actions. Mark adored and loved each and every one of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them and loved interacting with each one on their own level. And he is looking forward to being able to watch over his posterity, and all of their accomplishments to come!
Mark had the kind of love that would radiate from him and you could just feel of his sweet spirit.  Even complete strangers would comment on how they felt only meeting him for a brief period of time.  He had a hug that would make all of your troubles go away and a compassion that would make you feel like you were the most important person in the world to him.  Mark made you want to be a better person, just by being in his presence.  He lived what he believed and he most certainly walked the talk.
Through this journey of fighting cancer Mark has been able to touch so many countless lives.  He has shown what it means to fight for your very life and never give up.  Not one single time throughout this painful time did Mark utter one word of complaint.  Instead he always had a smile, hug, and a listening ear.  You always came away from your encounter with Mark feeling better about yourself, he just had that special way about him.  The Huntsman Cancer Institute Doctors, Nurses, and Staff all became like family to Mark and Robyn.  They so loved and appreciated each and every one of them.  Mark’s famous hugs became commonplace around the Hospital.
Mark’s saying has always been “Love is the Answer.”  And he truly exemplified that throughout his life.  One of the very last things he told his children before he passed is “Anytime there is a choice, Always choose kindness.”  And remember to always be happy.  Thank You for being our  greatest  example, hero, protector, and  for teaching us, and  showing us what truly matters in this life. Remember this is not goodbye, just see you soon.  #HINTZESTRONG!  LOVE IS THE ANSWER!
