Marjorie Russell

Our loving mother and grandmother, Marjorie Elida Swift Russell passed away peacefully on April 18, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marjorie was born to Alfred Charles Swift and Elizabeth Rose Britton Swift on June 2, 1924 in Salt Lake City. Growing up in the Sugarhouse area, she attended South High School, Henager Business College and the University of Utah.
In 1952, she married her sweetheart, Robert Frank Russell, the boy next door. They moved to San Francisco, and in 1960 to southern California, where she worked in the Computer Sciences Laboratory at the University of Southern California. Returning home to Salt Lake City in 1966, she later worked at the University of Utah Medical Center’s Clinical Research Center.
In her youth, Marjorie played first baseman on a girls’ softball team and was on the citywide championship-winning swim team. She especially enjoyed playing tennis into her eighties. She loved family and children and enjoyed volunteering, playing the piano, Bridge, entertaining, keeping a beautiful home, and organizing family reunions. She valued education, music, and anything of beauty. She will be remembered for her cheerfulness, work ethic, and ability to see the good in everyone. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, daughter Carol Lee Allen Griffin, and beloved brothers, Donald and Keith Swift. She is survived by daughters, Debbie (Rick) Hough, and Robin (Chris) Bateman. She adored her seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the loving neighbors and caregivers from Danville and CareSource.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 12:00 noon in the Mount Olympus Ward at 4635 S. Lanark Road (3315 East), with a viewing that morning from 10:00-11:45.
