Passed on October 22, 2013. Born to LaVaughn and Jesse Fielding Hales Bingham, Utah May 25th 1925. She is the 5th of nine children. Margie grew up in Ogden School for the Deaf. Graduated from West High School, SLC.
She met her husband Fred Leon Monson (also 5th of nine children) in art school and they married April 1, 1950. They are the parents of five children.
She was an avid reader always including a dictionary and thesaurus so she wouldn’t miss the meaning of any word. She was very social with her neighbors wherever she lived.
In her 40’s, she began her studies in psychology and sociology. She starred as the Jewish mother in the play “I Never Saw Another Butterfly,” a story of WWII’s Auschwitz Holocaust. She also studied all religions in order to counsel with hearing parents of deaf children. Her affiliations were with deaf people on the state, national, and international levels. She was diversified in her activities at Robert Sanderson center for the deaf and hard of hearing, senior citizen groups in SLC and Utah counties, and in Houston, TX.
Marge was active in family, church, travel, and spa groups. She became able to read lips to mingle in the hearing world, and became great at sign language as a young child.
She is survived by her sister Marilyn Hales Harington Smith of San Diego, CA and her brother Charles Hales (Linda Hales) of SLC, UT. Her children are Alana Monson Hill (Dwight Hill) Orem, UT; Raymond Monson (Leila Habib) Seattle, WA; Brian Monson (Anna Bergin Monson) Denver, CO; Gwen Monson Anderson (Randy Anderson) Houston, TX, and Daniel Monson SLC, UT. She has 16 grand-children and eight great grand-children.
Her viewing will be held Friday, November 1st, 2013 at Deseret Mortuary 6pm to 8pm, 36 East 700 South (between Main St. and State St.) SLC, UT and Saturday, November 2nd, 2013, viewing at 9am. Funeral at 11am at Hillcrest Eighth Ward Church, 1035 South 800 East, Orem, UT.
