Marjean North

February 1, 1935 — October 16, 2021

MarJean Poulsen North, Age 86 Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and dear friend MarJean, (Jeanie to some), died on Saturday, October 16, 2021. She was a fighter ‘til the end, having bravely battled breast cancer, heart failure, and dementia. She deeply missed her loving husband, Paul – whom she lost 15 years prior. She and Paul were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 17th 1955 for time and eternity – they shared a lifetime together, and now have eternity together.
MarJean followed her husband all over the world – from Utah, to Texas, to Germany, California, to Alabama, to Oklahoma, and back to Salt Lake City as an Army-wife, all the while making wonderful friends and memories together. She created a loving home for her family – wherever they landed and took great pride in being a wife and mother. She was a hard worker, always willing to take on a multitude of part time, or odd jobs until she started her career with Blue Cross-Blue Shield. There, she worked her way up to managing half of the Medicare department and retired after 18 years.
She and Paul had only a few years together after retirement before he passed away but had the time of their lives. They traveled all over with dear friends including a cruise to the Carribbean Islands, and then with RV’s in tow, they often wintered in Yuma, Arizona. After Paul died, she was able to continue her love of travels & adventures, viewing glaciers, sledding with dogs & even hitch-hiked in Alaska. Her last big trip was a Baltic cruise, where she was able to visit (or in some cases, re-visit places she and Paul had been) Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, and Russia. She loved music, Christmas, old movies, musicals, reading, crocheting, painting, playing games, crafting, spending time with her family, and making people happy with her little hand-made notes of kindness and her infectious smile.
Jeanie’s life revolved around the Church, her family and her friends. She loved the Gospel and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jeanie was called to serve in many capacities. She served in Stake and Ward Primary Presidencies, Stake & Ward Young Women Organizations, and Relief Society. She loved leading the music, and especially enjoyed any calling that allowed her to work with children. She was often uncomfortable teaching adults, but people always loved her lessons because her spirit was strong, and she was so inclusive. She took great comfort this this last year and a half from her reading in the scriptures, and always enjoyed going to the Temple. One special opportunity was to work in the office of the Jordan River Temple at the family file desk.
MarJean loved any opportunity to share time with her family and looked forward to attending the events her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were involved in – from horses, to wrestling matches, ballet, musical programs, and sporting events… she went to everything she could. She was grateful for the time she was able to live with all three of her sons and their families at some point over the last several years. In the end, she chose assisted living because she didn’t want the burden of her last years on her family. We are grateful to the staff at Wentworth at Coventry, as well as Care Team with Inspiration Hospice. In particular, Thank you Alexess , Nicole, Damarias (mom called her Sarah), and Hailey and Brenna, you were truly her other family and she loved you all.
MarJean is survived by her children: Kim (Eric Peckham), Gary (Jami), Kay (Marc Barrie), Terry (Vanessa), Chris (Michelle), and her sister, Kathy (Steve Seely). She also leaves behind many cherished and loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, as well as their spouses and their loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Braby North, her parents: Lela (Losse) & Reed Poulsen, her brother, Christian Reed Poulsen, her sister, Darlene (Jack Spence), and her great granddaughter, Emma Arianna Rose Peckham.
