Marinus “Enos” Louis Wouden

1948 ~ 2016

Marinus “Enos” Louis Wouden, 68, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on November 25, 2016, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer.

Enos was born June 29, 1948, to Jacobus and Carolina Van Der Wouden in Amsterdam, Netherlands.  He immigrated to the United States in 1949 with his family and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah.  As a Dutch immigrant, education was a priority in his life.  He excelled in his studies and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Utah and a Master’s Degree from Michigan Tech in Metallurgical Engineering.  In 1977, he was hired by the US Bureau of Mines where he worked as metallurgist until 1996.  Yet, even here, he never stopped learning.  When faced with the loss of his job due to the closure of the Bureau in 1996, he went back to University for a teaching credential so he could be a teacher.  He hoped others would love to learn as much as he did.  However, as circumstances would have it, his career went in a different direction.  He went on to work for, and eventually retired from, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) where he worked in a myriad of positions and always gave it his all.

Enos married his eternal companion, Marilyn Ruby Goldsberry, the love of his life, on March 28, 1975, in the Salt Lake Temple.  He is the father of nine wonderful children and spent his life devoted to his family, their betterment, and ultimate success.  He consistently encouraged his children and grandchildren to strive to be their best and persevere no matter what.

Enos faithfully served many callings in the LDS Church, most notably as the Financial and Accounting Clerk for the better part of 25 years.  His love for his Heavenly Father and Savior were ever present throughout his life.  At the age of 19, he served an LDS mission in the South German Mission.  His mission prepared him to teach his love for the gospel to his family.  His actions in life, love, compassion, and his dedication to the gospel and his family will affect generations to come.

Enos’ other great joys in life were singing, working on his cars (begrudgingly), sailing, gardening, substitute teaching, collecting stamps and coins, fixing/tinkering anything, solving problems (specifically math: word and number problems), and reading…he especially loved book swapping with his children.  Enos loved being a grandfather and his greatest delight was when his home was full of family, love, and laughter.

He leaves his wife, Marilyn, and nine children, Melissa (Sam) Miller, Michelle (Thresher) Wouden, Mindy (David) Pabst, Benjamin (Kimberly) Wouden, Deborah Wouden, Corinne Wouden, Alex Wouden, Brittany (Andrew) Wouden, Tami (Wade) Williams.  He also leaves 14 grandchildren and one on the way.  In addition, he leaves three brothers, Pieter, Carl, and George Wouden.  Enos is preceded in death by his parents.

A viewing will he held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Union Park 1st Ward chapel located at 7699 S. Chad Street in Midvale, Utah.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the chapel (a viewing will be available from 12:00 to 12:45 pm on the day of the services).  Following the services, interment will be held at the Memorial Redwood Cemetery located at 6500 S. Redwood Road in West Jordan, Utah.  Flowers may be sent to the Memorial Redwood Cemetery, or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation (https://donate.huntsmancancer.org/give). Online condolences may be shared at www.memorialutah.com.
