Marie Orlinda Martinez, 68, passed away on December 2, 2018. She was born on September 7th, 1950 in Bingham Canyon, UT.
Marie was dedicated to early childhood education and serving underprivileged families. She graduated from cosmetology school, worked as a hair dresser for several years, and then continued to provide free haircuts to her family. She worked at Headstart for most of her career focusing on improving the lives of children and remained an advocate for women’s rights throughout her life. One of her greatest accomplishments was being a co-founder of the Mineral County Help Line in Montana which allowed domestic abuse women and children a call line for seeking counsel and assistance. Marie loved to sew and her many creations will live forever with her family. She loved spending time in Montana with her grandchildren and passing along some of her favorite tamale secret tips and tricks. Marie was an avid reader of all types of books. On any summer day you could find Marie out in her garden providing love to her peaches and tomatoes.
Maria is survived by her sons, Zacharia and Jeremy (Valerie) Ashby, granddaughters Violet and Lavender, Sisters Margaret, Ruth, Anita, and her brother Richard. She is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Ruth, brothers Fred Jr., Rudy, Floyd, and Billy, and her ex-husband Ronald James Ashby.
Funeral services for Marie will take place on Friday, December 7th, 2018 at 4:00 PM. A viewing will take place immediately prior at 2:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT 84123.Service Information
