Marie Joan Newsome, 57, passed away on August 25, 2018 after a 2 year battle with cancer. Marie was born on November 29, 1960 in Salt Lake CIty to John Dale and Mary Lou Hansen Newsome. She was the second of 4 children.
Marie graduated from South High in 1979. Before the cancer, she worked at Smiths Marketplace. Some of her previous places of employment include Granite Furniture, Walgreens and Utah Theaters. Marie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Marie had a great love of animals. Marie’s mother told the following experience about her. “She (Marie) was playing in the back yard when she was about 3 years old. I went out to check on her and she had a little green worm in her hand. I screamed and went over and knocked it out of her hand and stepped on it. She looked at me and said that I had just killed her friend. I guess that any living creature was her friend.” This love of animals continued throughout Marie’s life. She had pet dogs, cats, hamsters and birds. When she was hospitalized a few weeks ago, she made sure that her dog, Amber and her 3 cats were being cared for.
She is survived by her brothers, John (Joy) and James (Elizabeth) Newsome and her sister Bonnie (Randy) Nesbit. She is also survived by her nieces Emily and Maranda Newsome, Annie Nesbit, Gianella Newsome, and her nephew J.T. Newsome as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Her family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses who cared for Marie at Huntsman Cancer Center as well as those who helped her through the last few weeks at Hunter Hollow.
