MARIE ALDER HUNTER
1923-2015
Our wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister passed away peacefully on June 22, 2015 surrounded by members of her loving family.
Marie was born on February 21, 1923, in Monroe, Utah, to William Brice Prisby and Martha Emelia Ronnow. Their family lived in Joseph, Utah, where Marie was the oldest of seven children. She distinguished herself as an outstanding student, graduating from South Sevier High School.
The second world War was raging at the time and she got a job making parachutes at a plant in Manti, Utah. While she was staying there she met her future husband, Clair Louis Alder. Clair was in the army and was home on leave. After a three month courtship they got married in 1943 in Grass Valley, California. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple later that year.
While Clair was in the military, their first child, Bruce Louis Alder was born in Nevada City, Callifornia. After the war, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where three more children were born: Kenneth Prisby Alder, Valerie Jean Alder and Wayne Clair Alder.
Marie settled in as a homemaker and was an excellent mother. Clair worked as a carpenter but suffered from health problems and died in 1964 at the age of 42. Faced with the responsibility of raising her children alone, Marie went back to school and became a licensed practical nurse. She had a successful career working at LDS Hospital until her retirement.
She married David Legrand Hunter in 1975 and they had a happy life living in West Valley City where they were very active in the LDS Church.
Marie lived a life filled with kindness and generous service to others. She was always a great help to her parents and younger siblings. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. While she will be deeply missed, we celebrate her wonderful life and take comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones.
Marie is survived by two sisters: Cleone Rogacki and Pearl Prisby, three children: Bruce Alder (Vicki), Kenneth Alder, Valerie Stuhff (Denis, deceased), 20 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Hunter, brothers Lawrence and Ronnow Prisby, sisters Anna Hansen (Dale) and Karma Lynn Farnsworth (Robert) and her son Wayne Alder.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 29th, at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral following at 11:00 a.m. Services will be held at the Hunter 23rd Ward at 3665 South 6000 West, West Valley City, Utah. Interment will follow at the Manti City Cemetery in Manti Utah.
