Heaven gained a sweet angel today. Our beautiful, classy mom, Marian Kreutzer Kone, age 87, passed away peacefully following a heart attack and other age related health issues. She was born on April 24, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Herman Kreutzer and Mary Virginia Thompson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Don Harvey Kone, and her grandson, Jason Schmidt. She is survived by her son, Gary Kone (Karen) and daughters Karen Caron (David), Kathy Provence (Robert) and Karleen Peterson (Matthew), her sisters, Lila Davis (George), Karla Gray and Lynda McAffee (Thomas) and brother James Mayfield (Rose), as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served for many years as a primary teacher and young women’s president. She loved the Girl Scout program and some of her fondest memories are times she spent as a Brownie leader. Another great joy for her was working as a volunteer at Lowell Elementary School as a teacher’s aide when her two youngest girls were there and again later in life as a reading mentor for children at Midvale Elementary School. Most of her career was spent in the medical field. She worked for several years running the office of an ophthalmologist and then as a receptionist/bookkeeper at a pediatricians office.
Her family was her pride and joy. She loved every minute she got to spend with them camping, going on vacations and day trips, gardening, canning, going to plays, concerts and musicals and celebrating family birthdays and holidays together. She was happiest with a grandchild or great grandchild on her lap or sitting beside her working jigsaw puzzles, coloring or reading. She was quick witted, humorous and optimistic. She never complained when she was in pain or didn’t feel good. She had a generous heart and gave her love freely and unconditionally.
We will miss our sweet mama with all our hearts, but we know she is being received into loving arms and hearing the words: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
