Margaretha Margriet Dykhuizen Johnson, 73, passed away on February 4, 2025, in West Valley City, Utah. She was born on June 2, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Evert Dykhuizen and Maria Vandenhazel.
Margriet married Kee Yazzie Johnson on June 20, 1969.
Margriet loved to do crafts. She would crochet blankets, Easter baskets, slippers, sweaters, scarves, gloves, and many other things. She read a lot of books and even though she never went to college, she taught herself many things like gardening, sewing her children’s clothes, blankets, and toys for her kid’s birthdays. She made many of her children’s Halloween costumes and birthday cakes such as R2D2, or a doll in a dress (the dress being a cake). She loved animals and would often get a stray animal dropped off at her home giving her the nickname “The Cat Lady”. She would not only take care of cats but a variety of many different animals such as dogs, rabbits, turtles, gerbils, chinchillas, parrots, and any kind of bird.
Margriet worked at many different jobs. She worked for 29 years at the Granite School District Kitchen. She was an accomplished cook, and our father loved it! She learned how to cook fry bread very well (for a Dutch lady). She figured out how to sneak vegetables into her children’s food.
Margriet loved her husband and pursued him even though she was 12 years younger than him. She asked him out and found excuses for him to fix her Volkswagen at the shop he worked at. They married in June of 1969 and were together for 55 years.
Margriet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her children in the gospel. She would attend the temple as much as she could. She served in the Granger 10th Ward in the Young Women’s, scouts, teacher and recently as a primary teacher for two years. She loved the little children and worked hard on giving them handouts from the lessons she taught.
Margriet loved her grandchildren – all of them!
Margriet is survived by her husband Kee Yazzie Johnson; sons Kee Tabhahie (Stephanie Carlton) Johnson, Edwin Yazzie (Lindsey) Johnson, Clay Boy Tachinee Johnson; daughter Rachelle Brooke (Navin) Betsuie; sister, Maria Smith, and 10 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Evert Dykhuizen and Maria Vandenhazel, and son Shane Colburn Johnson.
