Peggy

April 21, 1934 — September 7, 2024

Holladay

Margaret Ardelle (Gould) Pearce was born April 21, 1934 to Ray and LaDene Gould. She was the 4th child out of 6.

She grew up next door to her Grandpa and Grandma Schoenfeld on 8th South and 8th East. She attended Hamilton Elementary. They walked to school and always came home for lunch. Her mom was always there and had it ready for them. She had a happy childhood. She had lots of friends all over the neighborhood. They’d play Run Sheepy Run, Kick the Can, and baseball.

She attended Roosevelt Jr. High. She started taking dance about that time, ballet and tap. Then she learned to dance with a baton and did Military Tap. In her later years of dancing she became a Toe Dancer.

At age 10, she started sewing. She was a talented seamstress. She took some classes and by high school she was very good at making her own clothes. One time when she was dating our dad, they had a date planned. She asked what she should wear. He said the red dress. She didn’t have a red dress, so she went, bought red fabric, and made one! He really meant a rust dress she had.

She attended East High School.

She met our dad when we was working at Seagull Drug. She had seen him and his friend Larry several times in the drugstore and at The Avelon Ballroom. That was the teenage place to hang out. Our dad used to wink at mom over his date’s shoulder. Larry introduced them. They had their first date in March and were engaged May 4th and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 19, 1951. A very quick courtship! That was between her Jr. and Sr. year. She got a job as a dental assistant and receptionist.

Mom and Dad were great companions and really enjoyed each other. They never argued or fought. They enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and eventually golfing. She even got a hole in one in 1999.

She had four children from 1952-1960, Kent, Keith, Leslie, and Steven.

She was a wonderful mom, homemaker, and wife. She was a very organized person and kept a very tidy home. She was a talented seamstress. She sewed for other people, and when Leslie got married, she made her own wedding dress. She was an artist, quilter, she crocheted, knitted, did counted cross stitch, and other handwork, and a great cook and a very competitive game player.

One time she was in a wreck in the station wagon. Instead of fixing the car, they spent the money buying our first boat. That was the best investment ever. Our family loved camping, fishing, and waterskiing. We all learned to ski. When Mom was learning she really had a hard time getting up. She was told to sit on the edge of an inner tube. She sat in a little too far. She made it up and the tube was stuck to her butt! She just kept on skiing!

She loved being a grandma and had fun parties for the grandkids for the holidays.

Mom and Dad took up tennis in the 70’s. They were good tennis players. They played on teams in tournaments. She was known for her wicked serve. When Dad had cancer and was still playing doubles in tennis, she would fill in for him when he got too tired to play.

After Dad passed, she started bowling in leagues. She as a good bowler. At age 89 she bowled a 193!

Dad retired at age 55. In 1987, they bought a trailer and started trailering with friends. They look lots of fun trips. They joined The Good SAM, and started going to Yuma, AZ for the winters.

In 1990 they served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gallup, New Mexico in the mission office. They loved their mission and serving with the Native Americans.

Mom was a very caring, loving, and selfless woman. She didn’t want for much and was content with what she had. She will be greatly missed by many.

Peggy was preceded in in death by her husband Richard, her parents, Ray and LaDene Gould, two brothers, Don and Ken and her sister LaRae. She is survived by her children Kent (Marie), Keith (Ralyn), Leslie, Steve (Anna), 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, her brother Lowell (Nancy), and her sister Glenna.
