Margaret Olive Makin Craig Oreno returned home to her Heavenly Parents and into the encircling arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 17, 2017. She was welcomed home with inexpressible joy and thanksgiving by her eternal companion, Derrick Craig, her son, Stephen Craig, her parents, George Albert Makin and Beatrice Pugh Makin, her brother, George Barrie Makin, and countless other family and friends on the other side of the veil. Margaret was born September 15, 1930 in Birmingham, England. She passed away peacefully in Sandy, Utah at the home of Michael and Alesha Ford.
Margaret’s greatest treasures were her family and her faith. She bore her testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ frequently and tirelessly lived what she preached. Every chapter of her life is a testament to her selfless sacrifice, radiant love, and hard-working English grit as she cared for, lifted, and strengthened her family. Margaret emigrated from England with her husband Derrick and son Stephen to Canada after enduring the calamities of World War II. After a wonderful season in Canada she moved with her family to Utah to be married in the House of the Lord and come to Zion. Margaret and Derrick were married for time and all eternity and sealed to Stephen in the Logan, Utah temple.
They were later blessed with a beautiful daughter, Anne-Marie. Margaret also cared and sacrificed greatly for her three grandchildren after Anne-Marie divorced. In the tempest of affliction, her beloved Derrick passed away and she became a widow in 1988. She continued forward with undaunted faith and fortitude and was blessed to be remarried in 1992 to John Oreno. John brought much needed companionship and support to Margaret. One of her most cherished periods was serving as a temple worker with John in the Salt Lake City temple where her melodic English accent and gentle manner brought peace and hope to those attending the temple. She later mourned the unexpected loss of her cherished son, Stephen Craig, in 2005 as well as John Oreno when he passed away in 2009. She spent the twilight of her life in Saint George, Utah, where she took in her granddaughter, Margaret Ford, for several years. She was lovingly cared for by Alesha and Michael Ford in their home with the help of an exceptional hospice service before her passing.
Margaret’s life was one of enduring service to her church, family, and friends. Her love lifted us toward heaven and gave us the courage to overcome difficult challenges and continue forward in faith. She loved deeply and fully, inspiring all who knew her. Her transcendent love will endure forever in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Anne-Marie Craig Ford, sister Dorothy Sporle Makin Linfor, brother Edward Lancaster Makin, daughter-in-law Marjorie Lu Craig, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
