Margaret Lillian Carlson Oberhansly

April 27, 1939 — February 17, 2022

A unique blend of grace and grit, Margaret Lillian Carlson Oberhansly passed away peacefully on February 17, 2022. Almost 83 years earlier, on April 27, 1939, Margaret blessed the Holladay, Utah, home of a Swedish immigrant, Thure Erick Carlson, and his artist/pianist wife, Lillian Jessie Gail. She admired her older brother and adored the younger siblings she practically raised, including taking them on all her dates! Known for her exquisite beauty and daring ways, she and her high school sweetheart, Clem “O.B.” Oberhansly, eloped to Salt Lake City on January 13, 1956; their marriage was solemnized June 21, 1969, in the Oakland California Latter-day Saint Temple.
Margaret loved fiercely and widely—no color or class was excluded:  neighbors, bus drivers, coworkers, fellow congregants, her kids’ class and teammates, and extended family. She embraced her virtues—gardening and canning—AND her vices—smoking and swearing. Self-taught in every area, she created a yard heralded for its loveliness and peace. She was a puzzler, a painter, and a pre-internet-era genealogist. Also, a skilled seamstress, she crafted Barbie doll clothes for her daughters and American Girl doll clothes and accessories for her grands.
When the love of her life died September 4, 2001, part of her died, too. After suffering mobility loss due to a brain tumor, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis, she moved from her eldest daughter’s home to an assisted living facility, Sunshine Terrace, where she quickly became a favorite—despite her dementia.
She is survived by: her siblings Lloyd (Maura) Carlson of El Segundo, CA; RuthAnn (Arlo) McKee of Ogden, UT; and Linda (Jon) Bingham of Neola, UT; daughters Sharie Michelle (Craig) Burris, of Young Ward, UT, and Jacqueline Monique (Gregory) Archbold, of Los Alamos, NM, and son William Kenneth (Ryan) Oberhansly of Eden, UT; grandchildren Landyn, Hayden (Bree), and Sierra (James McGuire) Burris; Liesl, Rhiannon (Evan McDaniel), Ralph, and Hans Archbold; and Sawyer and Crue Oberhansly; and great-grandchildren Kaysen and Oakley Burris, Foster and Ivory McGuire, and Atticus and Brita McDaniel. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and two brothers:  Gail Thure and Nels Earl Carlson.
Our deep sense of loss is balanced by the joy of knowing that she was welcomed tenderly into the eternal embrace of her forever family.
