Margaret Hunter Bond

August 24, 1939 — December 15, 2021

On December 15, 2021, Margaret Hunter Bond, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s and a broken back. She was born on August 24, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the first of five children to James Albert and Milicent Kobs Hunter. She was very proud to have attended the William M. Stewart School, on the University of Utah Campus, for elementary and junior high, and East High School.
On February 6, 1959, she married Richard Palmer Bond. They were getting ready to celebrate their 63rd anniversary at the time of her passing. Together, they were the parents of three children. They liked to travel and went on many trips to locations around the world with friends from the Shriners and camping trips with family and friends in the Utah Christian Camp Club. Margaret especially enjoyed trips to Disneyland with her family.
She began her career as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell. After taking time away from her career to raise her family, she returned as a Customer Service Representative, and continued her career in the telecommunications industry, through many corporate name changes, until her retirement. After retirement, she went to work part-time in the office at the Salt Lake Masonic Temple to keep herself busy.
Margaret was an avid seamstress and crafter. She used her skills to create many wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses, robes for Job’s Daughters, clown costumes for Shrine Clowns, uniforms for other Masonic organizations, and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. She loved hosting craft night with her girls. Her handcrafted Santas were in high demand around the holiday season, and she donated many of them to raise money for worthy causes. She spent countless volunteer hours sewing in the Shriners Hospital Sewing Room and was very proud of her service to the organization. She also enjoyed bowling and often served as Secretary for her leagues. She was always free with her advice, knowledge, opinions, and her crocheted potholders, which have been distributed all over the country.
Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church, where she belonged to Ruth Circle and served as Treasurer for the Circle for many years. Margaret was also a member of several Masonic organizations. She was a Majority Member of Bethel 1 of Salt Lake City, Utah, Job’s Daughters International, and served as a member of the councils for Bethels 5 and 13, while her daughters and granddaughters were members of the organization. She was a Past High Priestess of Iris Court #47, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, and was a member of Lybia Temple #32, Daughters of the Nile, holding many positions in these organizations.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Richard; children: Cheryl Blycker, Robert (Paula) Bond, Barbara (Brian) Mace; grandchildren: Christopher (Kylean), Erica, and Emily Blycker; Maxwell (Jesika), Angela, and Austin Bond; and Caelan and Connor Mace; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings: Virginia Schimmel, Wesley (Judy) Hunter, Lawrence (Ruth) Hunter; sister-in-law, Lyne Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Hunter; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Bond.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City, 777 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a visitation prior to the service at noon. For everyone’s safety, the family requests that those attending the funeral take the appropriate safety precautions.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Summit Senior Living and AFI Advanced Care Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of our mother during her last days.
