Margaret Grace Chatwin

December 9, 1924 — July 4, 2019

My name is Margaret Grace (Nelson) Chatwin. I was born on December 9th, 1924 in Murray, Utah at the Modern Maternity Home. After a battle with metastatic melanoma, I got my wish and passed away at home with family on July 4th, 2019. I received my Independence from this Mortal life and I’m finally in my “Happy Place.”
I loved my parents greatly, and was an only child. I moved to Cottonwood, Utah in my youth. I didn’t know I was adopted until I was 20 years old. When I went to get my birth certificate for the first time, it wasn’t available and thus found out that I was never born! Yet I was standing right there in front of them and I said “hum, maybe I was hatched!”
I will probably receive notoriety, and be remembered by friends and family, as the last person who successfully rung our Nation’s Liberty Bell, much to the dismay of the tour guides and security guards! was a talented seamstress and had a beautiful singing voice and served many with my talents. I hope I am remembered as a happy, generous, silly and social person who loved children and animals. I developed a tender and loving concern for special needs children after the time I spent with my granddaughter Tiffany. I have a burning testimony that Heavenly Father is here. I love my Country and the 4th of July, crafting, traveling in the trailer with my Husband, Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren.
My family means everything to me. My husband Val (Laval) is my life long sweetheart and Eternal Companion and I have missed him so much! We were married on May 13, 1946 and lived in Holladay, Utah most of the rest of our lives. I will be forever grateful for the day in the matinee, watching “White Christmas,” when I approached a handsome young stranger and offered him a lemon drop. Val was my best friend, my love and my dear one of 66 years of marriage on Earth, and now we will be back together for time and all eternity. We were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple in 1976.
Ever since losing both of my parents in my twenties, I felt a great longing to know my biological parents. Many years later my biological mother came to me in a dream and explained why she had given me up. After Val passed away, I did a DNA test and finally found the name of my biological mother (Ethel Lorraine Terry).
I am now happy and free of worry and pain, and was preceded in death by many friends and family including my parents, Grace Eliza Boyce (mother), Arthur Nelson (father}, Laval A Chatwin (husband}, my beautiful Valene (daughter) and my sweet Tiffany (granddaughter)
I leave behind my beloved daughters Kay Drury and Lorraine Schmidt (Tom), and my many grandchildren and great grandchildren, friends and neighbors. I have passed life’s great test and I am home again.
Margaret’s family would like to express many thanks and appreciation for the care given to Mom by the staff at Ridge Cottonwood, Symbii Home Health and Hospice especially Laura and Holly, Visiting Angels, and Lorraine, Amber, Crystal and friends. With this combined effort, we were able to endure some difficult times and feel the rewards and closure of having done so.
