Margaret Campbell

January 20, 1925 – August 6, 2018

Our hearts are saddened by the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend. We are, however, comforted with the knowledge that she has joined her husband and many loved ones that had been anxiously awaiting that reunion.
Mom began life in Salt Lake City, the 3rd of four children born to Francis William Salt and Emma Kunz Salt – her siblings were Bill, Dorothy, and Dick.
Our Mom and Dad (Willy Campbell) spent most of their lives in the Salt Lake area. After retiring they traveled in their motor home between Oregon and Mexico, enjoying the cool climate of Oregon in the summer and the warm weather of Baja in the winter. After eight years of traveling, they built a beautiful home on the Oregon coast but later sold it to return to Utah — wanting to live closer to their grown children Bonnie, Frank, Linda, Susan and Bill.
Mom was one that was always active and full of life. That was never more evident than when she would hear some of her favorite songs from the 50’s. Her foot would automatically rise and fall as it had to keep in rhythm to the beat of the music. In addition to enjoying music, Mom loved growing beautiful flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees.
Of course the most beautiful thing Mom admired was her family, her many grandchildren, and her temple marriage to her Sweetheart of over 66 years. Despite being married for so many years, she was always very conscientious about looking her best, she had to be well-groomed every day. Perhaps it was vanity or just an eternal youthful spirit like Peter Pan that caused her to resist using a cane or wearing her hearing aids  — as she did not want to appear old.
Some may be surprised that this mild-mannered lady possessed a very competitive side. You would soon discover that if matched up against her in horseshoes, playing cards or a game of marbles. Of course, she enjoyed watching competitive sporting events, especially watching the Utah Jazz as well as BYU football and basketball.
Yet it was her love of people that made even non-family members feel like family. To many, she was simply called “Grandma Great”. She greeted people with a warm smile, a hug, listened intently to what they had to say, quickly making each person feel loved and accepted.
One of her favorite places to visit, as often as possible, was “Down South” or Fremont, Utah. It was no coincidence as Fremont held many fond memories for her as it is the location of her yearly Salt Family Reunion — something that has become a 3 day event for several hundred people during the last 56 years.
Mom passed from this life on her terms by choosing to be at home, surrounded by family.
Preceded in death by her husband William, a sister Dorothy, and her brother Bill. She is survived by a brother Dick Salt, her children Bonnie Napier; Frank (Sandy) Campbell; Linda (Peter) Radford; Susan (Allen) Vickers; Bill (Connie) Campbell; as well as numerous grandchildren and relatives..
