Marco Bostantzoglou, age 69, passed away on February 18, 2015, in Oceanside, CA. He was born on February 11, 1946, in Chios Greece to John and Despina Bostantzoglou. He married Mary Ann Van Hauter on January 18, 1982.
Loyal husband, wonderful father, and generous friend, always willing to share his time with all who asked for it. Marco spent the first half of his life at sea, and has seen every continent on Earth. Marco was a chief engineer on large freighters, and oil tanker ships. He was responsible for the ships smooth sailing and safety of his crew. He never lost a ship, and would never allow a ship to set sail unless he knew it was safe for all aboard. When Marco found the love of his life, Mary Ann, he decided to retire from a life at sea and start a family. He was blessed to have two loving sons, first, Dan and ten years later, John.
Marco was known as the giver in our family. He was always looking to help everyone he came to know. He was everyone’s free on the spot handyman and would always drop whatever he was doing to help others. A man who truly understood and lived a life of philotimo. He loved life, cooking, music, entertaining, handyman projects, traveling to Greece, and listening to everyone’s problems. He fought his battle with cancer to the very end, and fell asleep to our Lord, Jesus Christ, at home surrounded by his family. May his memory be eternal.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Dan (Tiffany) and John; twin sister, Anastasia Tasoula Tsortanidis; brother, Joseph Bostantzoglou (Voula); sister, Theano Bostantzoglou; nephews, Dino Tsortanidis (Bessie), John Bostantzoglou (Katina), Bill Bostantzoglou; and Matthew Tsortanidis; half-brother, Jack Boston McKenzie (Anna) and children; and loving cousins in Greece and America.
