Manfred Deus

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Manfred Richard Deus, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2018, shortly after visiting with many family and friends at his home in Taylorsville, Utah at age 88.  This gentle giant will be missed by all he served.
He was born in Breslau, Germany to Richard Fritz Deus and Gertrud Anna Pfeiffer on July 24, 1930. He grew up in Germany and was drafted into the German army at the age of 14.  He served an LDS mission in West Germany from 1950-1952. He immigrated to the United States in October 1952 and ten months later was drafted into the US Army and served for 8 years as a chef and assistant chaplain. He first met his life–long sweetheart at age 21 while serving an LDS mission in Germany. They happened to meet again at a German dance four years later in Salt Lake City.  They married Oct. 12, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from LDS Business College with an Associate Degree in accounting. He was a life–long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved serving the Lord and others in many callings including Stake President and Bishop. He was a talented musician and played many piano and accordion songs from memory. He retired from the State of Utah Job Service after more than 30 years of employment. Some of his favorite memories include building his cabin and spending time there with his family. He loved to ride the 4 wheelers, snowmobiles and giving his grandchildren rides.
Manfred is survived by his wife Brigitte Fiedel Deus; six children Andy (Betty), David, Marvin (Kalene), Corvin (Andrea), Jeffrey, Christie (Steve) Stringham; 24 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathy Siebenhaar and Bruni Zunkowski. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Gisela Sawatski. 
A viewing will be held Tuesday evening, December 11, 2018 at the LDS Ward Building, 7115 S. 3200 W., West Jordan, UT, 84084 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the LDS Chapel, 7115 S 3200 W West Jordan Utah, 84084 with a viewing from 10:00 – 10:45 am.
