Madge Tyler Gygi

November 29, 1922 — September 23, 2015

Madge Tyler Gygi, 92, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2015.
Madge was born November 29, 1922, the sixth of 7 children born to Andrews Tyler and Helen Dodge Tyler, in Ucon, Idaho. She was a happy, fun and delightful child who enjoyed life on the farm. Her cousins were her best friends and classmates. Her early education was in Ucon where she rode her horse to school every day, later graduating from Ucon High School.
In the fall of 1940, Madge journeyed to Salt Lake City to attend LDS Business College. She met her future eternal companion, William Frederick Gygi, at a social gathering in the home of LDS leader Harold B. Lee. During World War II over a weekend furlough, they married on January 23, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with three children – Shauna Francine, Alan Tyler and Wanda Helen. They celebrated their 67th anniversary before Bill passed away on April 21, 2009.
For 35 years, she enjoyed her career as a well-respected secretary with the law firm of Moyle & Draper in Salt Lake City. She developed and maintained lifetime associations with the attorneys and with her co-workers.
A faithful member of the LDS Church, she served in various capacities in the auxiliary organizations. Her most fulfilling calling was serving and supporting her husband in his many leadership positions. Solid, steadfast and unwavering in her testimony of the gospel, she leaves a legacy of faith, unconditional love and quiet endurance that will be cherished by her posterity.
Madge loved life. She loved all things domestic — motherhood, housekeeping and homemaking. She was a beautiful seamstress, sewing outfits, costumes, doll clothes and quilts. She loved serving her family. She loved to laugh and often shared her humor. Feeling deprived that she grew up without knowing a grandma, she loved being one. Not a worrier, always realistic, accepting and positive, she expressed gratitude for her life. We will remember her as a lovely lady, gracious and articulate. Her wisdom and counsel will continue to influence many.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Thueson; her children Shauna (Don, deceased) Forsyth, Alan (Robyn) Gygi, and Wanda (George) Lavin; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Elzina Lee, Murray Tyler, J Tyler, Philip Tyler, Jean Cook; and 3 great-grandsons, Bo Hoagland Forsyth, William Eric Lavin and Jonathan Patrick Lavin.
Special gratitude to Highland Cove and OneCare Hospice for their loving care and assistance.
