Madge Diane Schluter

February 8, 1964 — December 10, 2017

A fighter until the end, Madge Diane Schluter, born February 8, 1964, lived graciously and courageously until she passed from cancer on Sunday, December 10, 2017, surrounded by those who meant the most to her. Madge lived life to the fullest and always encouraged others to do the same. She lived life on her own terms, marched to her own beat, and nobody was going to tell her any different. She didn’t live by society’s typical rules and standards and that’s what made her so great. She had so many passions, traveling, music, but above all, her thirst for knowledge. While she was always the most stunning woman in the room, her physical beauty didn’t hold a candle to her generosity, kindness and quick-witted humor. Whether she was offering food to strangers off the freeway or spouting off some clever comeback, her charismatic attitude and genuine charm was enough to make a lasting impression on all those who crossed paths with her. With her optimistic “glass half full” outlook, even in the darkest of circumstances, she was able to find that silver lining. She did not dwell in the sadness and negative parts of life; she chose to focus on the good and everyday would encourage her 2 daughters to do the same. Although grown, her 2 daughters, Tammy & Katie, were the light of her life and still remain her “precious babies.” She loved them more than life itself and reminded them of that every chance she got. She was so excited to meet her first grandbaby (to be born in April 2018) and already had an alternative title to Grandma picked out; she wanted to be called GranMadge, one word of course. Even on her hardest days and as her health drastically declined, she was more concerned with knowing that her family was going to be okay. She was the kindest and most caring woman, just by speaking with her you would have never known the pain and suffering that was going on inside her. Cancer may have worn down her body and exhausted her strength but it couldn’t touch her radiant smile and contagious laughter that she maintained all the way to the end. This beautiful, strong and selfless woman was taken much too soon from her family and friends and has left us with an unfillable void. We can only hope that all of those who knew her will take a page from her book; think of every day as a gift and look at it as a journey, focus on creating lasting memories rather than remembering regrets and find the good that’s all around us.
She will be missed more than we could possibly express by those she is leaving behind. She is survived by her daughters Tammy Colipano & Katie (Spencer) Romney; longtime partner, Ray Stowe; ex-husband, Sabino Milner; mother, Verla Schluter; siblings, Bert (Genie) Mortensen; Melva (Donald) Lanier; Geneal Granato; Ronald Schluter and Brian (Hayley) Schluter; along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews, close friends and relatives.
Madge is preceded in death by her baby sister Brandi Schluter, her father Ronald Schluter and several Grandparents and Great Grandparents.
A celebration will be held in her honor for family and close friends at 11:00 am on Friday, December 22 at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery (6500 S. Redwood Road). To honor her love of animal’s, memorial donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
