Mac Jess Hansen

June 21, 1927 — October 3, 2018

Mac Jess Hansen, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend to all, passed away in his home on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. He was born on June 21, 1927 to Jess Hansen and Genevieve Claudia Larsen in Invernay (Central), Utah. On May 29, 1947, he married his teen sweetheart Dolores Ruby Keeler Tolley in the Manti Temple and celebrated 65 years together.
Mac was very athletic as a young man playing on the Richfield City baseball team, high school and church basketball teams, high jump, and also tied for first place in state in pole vaulting.
He was very industrious from his early childhood and would take odd jobs and help anyone who needed a hand. He worked at Christy’s Market in Richfield until receiving a career job with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph in 1953. After a few years, he transferred to Salt Lake City and the family found a home in Kearns, Utah in 1960. He retired from Mountain Bell after 30 years of service. After retiring, he went to work at Hercules for seven years and retired in 1990.
In 1948, Mac entered the Utah National Guard. In 1950, he was inducted into the Army and his National Guard unit, Battery A. 213th Armored Filed Artillery Battalion was called to serve in the Korean War conflict. He served his country willingly and proudly until his release in 1952. His unit was awarded high honors for heroism in battle.
Mac served in various callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sunday School, as Ward Clerk, Bishopric, and in Stake positions. He loved the Lord and Gospel music.
At home his yard was beautiful and he worked in it constantly. He loved growing plants and vegetables, and shared starts of trees, bushes and flowers with everyone. We’re still reaping the fruits of his labors from his garden.
Mac was a gentle, kind man and his presence will be deeply missed. He spent his time with his family as much as possible. He enjoyed woodcarving beautiful creations, fishing, hunting, stamp and coin collecting, and loved to watch birds.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Dolores; daughter Marsha; brothers Douglas and Pete; and sister Mary Ann Cedarholm.
Mac is blessed with four children: Marsha (Paul) Elkins both deceased; Earl (Linda) Hansen, Gilbert, AZ; Beth (Rod) Wickham, West Jordan, UT; and Susan (Todd) Simons, West Jordan, UT; 11 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
