Lynne Jenkins Brimley, noble and devoted daughter of her Heavenly Father, was taken home unexpectedly on Thursday, February 19. Our beautiful, beloved and always fun wife, mother and grandmother was only 72 years young.
Lynne was born March 31, 1943 to Juanita Davies and Joseph Sceli in Salt Lake City, Utah. When she was only 4, she was adopted by her incredible and loving father, Max Edward Jenkins. While attending Highland High School she met the love of her life and future husband, Richard Francis Brimley. Lynne graduated in English from the University of Utah, attended graduate school and made countless friends as a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Richard and Lynne were married in the Salt Lake LDS temple in 1965. Two years later they started their family living just a few blocks from where they grew up.
Lynne was completely devoted in every possible way to her family of five children. She never missed a sporting event, school function, dance or gymnastics competition or church meeting where her children were involved. With patience, grace and always a spirit of fun, she helped with countless hours of homework, wrote dozens of speeches and corrected hundreds of papers. Lynne and Richard loved being with their children and bought their first houseboat at Lake Powell in 1979, which provided endless summer vacations for the family. Lynne enjoyed Sun Valley, Idaho having fun with her family for holidays and events while she owned Country Cousin gift shop in Sun Valley for over 30 years. She enjoyed the ocean, and vacations in Southern California or Mexico whenever possible. Lynne felt about as close to heaven as she could get here on this earth while she was next to the surf enjoying her favorite pastime of reading.
Second only to her love of family, Lynne loved and lived the gospel of Jesus Christ her entire life. More callings than can be listed included Sunday School and Gospel Doctrine teacher, Relief Society president, Young Womens president and missionary. In the Cottonwood 1st ward Lynne was the director, producer, choreographer and lyricist of four amazing Road Show productions. It was her ability to motivate, control, teach and deal with dozens of teenagers that produced Broadway quality productions. In her current ward she also headed major involved projects such as the live Nativity and the 24th of July float-both of which she did fabulously. She loved her ward members and always offered a hand to serve any time. No assignment was too big, too time consuming or too demanding. When she was unexpectedly called to her heavenly home, Lynne and Richard were serving a full time mission, faithfully offering service to members of the Holiday South Stake and also serving as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple.
The greatest chapter of Lynne’s life and the one which gave her the most joy and happiness, started in December 2000 when her first grandchild was born. Nine more beautiful spirits were added over the next ten years, along with 10 additional grandchildren from her children’s marriages. Nothing ever exceeded her role as grandmother. She never stopped talking about them. She could never do enough or have enough time with them. She was a source of love, happiness, support and kindness to every single one of them. There was nothing on earth she wouldn’t do for them.
With her passing, her family and friends have lost a powerful spirit, a devoted friend, a caring mother and grandmother and loving wife. Her life and most importantly her example and her actions had a positive impact and impression on literally everyone she met. She left a true statement to all of us on how to live life to the fullest, how to love and serve your family, your neighbors, your Creator and be a help and a hope in your community. She was unique and beautiful in every imaginable way and has left a void in our hearts that will never be completely filled.
