Lynn Findlay

March 25, 1935 — November 2, 2017

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proclaiming, “Wow, what a ride!”
On Thursday, November 2, Lynn F. Findlay Jr. rode off into the sunset to join with his parents, favorite brother, other family members and friends in the great roundup in the sky.
Lynn was born in Kanab, Utah on March 25, 1935 to Lynn F. Findlay Sr. and Leota Nielsen Findlay. Married Gail Farnsworth (later divorced). Married D. Janette Colby at Lake Tahoe, California, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Lynn received his education at the U of U, BYU, Purdue University, Colorado State University, and Humboldt University with a degree in Education, where he taught several years at East and South High Schools. He also completed a year’s internship at LDS Hospital as a medical technologist where he worked until he retired January of 2000.
He served a two year LDS Mission to the British Isles. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. He was also an Ordinance worker for several years at the Jordan River Temple, and served an Inner City Mission with his wife Janette. He was never happier than when he was outside working in his garden, and being with family, particularly his grand and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Janette Colby Findlay, two daughters and two sons. Tammy Phelps (Larry), Wendy King (Brad), Lynn III, and Scott. Sister Elizabeth Tanner (William), Sister-in-law Karen Findlay. Step children, Teresa (Rick), Keri (Dan), and Teri (Todd). He has 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jay, and grandchild Jennifer Phelps.
Don’t sell your saddle.
Never owe another man.
Watch where you spit on a windy day.
Don’t use words you don’t understand.
Find the Lord before you need him.
And never lose your pride.
‘Cause life’s a long, long ride.
Once a cowboy, always a cowboy.
Don’t sell your saddle.
Never owe another man.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 6, at 11:00am at the Peachwood Ward 3963 South Peachwood Drive (3480 West), West Valley City, Utah. At Lynn’s request there will be no viewing, instead there will be a gathering of family and friends prior to the service from 10:00-10:45am. Interment at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
