Lynn Charles Weight

July 10, 1940 — June 16, 2017

Lynn Charles Weight, 76, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, in Salt Lake City.
He was born July 10, 1940, in Salt Lake City to Jesse Aaron Weight and Edith Emmerette Archibald. He graduated from Granite High School in 1958. He married Linda Marie Burt on November 22, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with four children: Lori (Hank) McIntire, Lisa (Jeff) Stevens, Layne (Jayme), and Lynette.
Lynn was employed by American Stores for 50 years. He began as a clerk at the Skaggs Drug Store in downtown Salt Lake City on 300 South. He later worked as an advertising and property manager in the Osco Drug division of American Stores in Las Vegas, Nevada, and later with Skaggs Alpha Beta in Salt Lake City, and Buttrey Food & Drug in Great Falls, Montana. When American Stores was acquired by Albertson’s/Supervalu, he concluded his employment in Salt Lake City.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service included a full-time mission (West Central States Mission), bishop (38th Ward, Henderson, Nevada, West Stake), counselor in the stake presidency (Henderson, Nevada, West Stake), high council (Las Vegas Paradise Stake; Sandy, Utah, Cottonwood Creek Stake; Great Falls, Montana, West Stake; and West Jordan, Utah, Welby Stake), and stake mission president (Great Falls, Montana, West Stake). Lynn and his wife Linda served three missions together (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; inner-city mission in Salt Lake City; and the church’s Family History Library).
Lynn was a gifted artist and often customized birthday cards for his extended-family members. He loved to work in his yard, and it was known for the beautiful flowers and meticulously manicured lawn. He was keenly interested in people and maintaining connection with friends and extended family. He was an accomplished storyteller and entertained his grandchildren with the adventures of Buzz the Bee and his friends.
His tender, gentle manner allowed him to be a keen listener and confidant, and his family and those he led as a church leader were blessed by his genuine interest and wise counsel.
Lynn is survived by his wife Linda, his four children, their 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his sister Linda (Bill) Plastow; sister in law Jenny Weight; and sister in law Hazel Weight. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers DuWayne and Ralph Weight, and sister Ruth Weight.
