Luz Rodriguez Torres

This past Sunday, April 8, 2018, our dear mother, grandmother, and friend returned peacefully to her Heavenly home surrounded by many of those she had loved in life. However, on the other side of the veil awaiting her arrival was her husband Elias, her son Luis, her parents Cruz and Margarita and many other numberless hosts who were awaiting her arrival.
Luz was born in Ozumba, Mexico in 1928 to Cruz and Margarita Rodriquez.  She was born into a family who loved and lived the Gospel of Jesus Christ. On her birth registry it states that her father Cruz was “casado, comerciante, Mormon.”
She was the fourth of eleven children who came into that home. They were Marciano (1974), Juan (1925), Moroni (1993), Luz (2018), Laman (2009), America, Alma, Gloria (2007), Venus, Eva and Elam (1992)
She served a full time mission in the Mexico Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After which she married her true love Elias Rivera Torres for time and all Eternity in the Meza, Arizona Temple where her parents were sealed to one another at the same time.
Early in her married life she realized the need to learn English and to become acquainted with the culture of her new adopted country. Her life was dedicated to raising her seven children and providing them with the instruction and nutrition they each needed.
With her husband she served as a public relations missionary in the Dominican Republic. She was a Temple worker in the Jordan River Temple where she and Elias initiated the Temple work among the Hispanic Saints in the Salt Lake Valley.
She is survived by six of her seven children David (María Luisa), Margarita, Noemi (Joel), Samuel (Ruby), Dolores (Roberto) and Pablo, 26 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Cruz and Margarita Rodriquez, siblings Marciano, Juan, Moroni, Laman, Gloria, Elam, her son Luis, and her grandson David Moses.
A viewing will be held Friday evening, April 13th, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah and prior to the funeral from 10:00-11:30 at the Murray 2nd Ward. The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 12:00 at the Murray 2nd Ward, 363 East Vine Street, Murray, Utah. Interment will be at the Lake Hills Cemetery.
