Luwana “Mama Luwana” Naegle Paxman

March 22, 1936 — June 14, 2020

West Jordan, UT – LuWana Naegle Paxman lovingly known as “Mama LuWana”, 84, returned to her heavenly home on June 14, 2020 in her home of 53 years in West Jordan, Utah. She was born on March 22, 1936 in Thatcher, Arizona to LeRoy Carl and Bernice Overson Naegle. She was raised in Concho and St. Johns, AZ. She graduated from St. John’s High School in 1954.
While she was living in Phoenix, working for Senator Greer, she met Mark Paxman, her sweetheart of 59 years, when he was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. They were married in Tucson, AZ in 1956 and moved to Salt Lake City to start their life together. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in 1962. Together they raised the six Paxman Girls – Harriett, Sherry, Patti, Marie, Penny and Misty – the luckiest girls in the world! She taught them how to work hard, to cook, to serve others and to love their Dad. Mom took great care of Dad, making sure he always had a good meal, an ironed shirt and a willing partner in life. Dad always told her “LuWana, I love you with all my heart.”
LuWana loved her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. They lovingly called her GG – Grandma Great. She loved having a house full of friends and family and cooking delicious food – especially her homemade bread and Navajo Tacos. She always had a beautiful yard and a plentiful garden.
She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Westland 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings in the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations. One of her favorite things was cooking gourmet meals for both Girls Camp and the Pioneer Trek. Mark and LuWana served for 18 years in the baptistry at the Jordan River Temple, which they loved.
Mom loved Diet Mt. Dew, Cheetos, reading her Louis L’Amour books, the Utah Jazz, popcorn, sitting by her fireplace, hair day, her cat Bernie, country music, sewing and making her home a piece of heaven on earth. She was kind, loving, had a great sense of humor and a lot of sass.
Mom, you are loved and forever in our hearts!
She is survived by her 6 daughters, Harriett Bryant, Sherry (Mike) Hunsaker, Patti (Ron) Vance, Marie (Jeff) Kingsbury, Penny Paxman and Misty (Gordon) Eyre, her 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and her siblings, Neysia Stradling, Lynnette Carroll, Roy Naegle and John Naegle. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Mark and both her parents.
