Luitsen Vredeveld

April 30, 1951 — February 14, 2020

Our loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend Luitsen (Lou) Vredeveld, passed away at age 68 on February 14, 2020, in Sandy, Utah. He was born April 30th, in 1951. His family migrated from Almelo, Netherlands to Salt Lake City when he was three-years-old. He married his sweetheart, Carol Lynn, on August 27, 1971.
Lou helped his family clean offices when he was young and worked as a gas station attendant and mechanic as a teenager where he developed a love for working on and refurbishing classic cars. He attended South High School and graduated from SL Community College with an Automotive Associate Degree. He retired at 65 from working 28 years at HOJ / Hesco Engineering as the Service Manager.
Lou and Carol loved their family and enjoyed watching them grow. Going to soccer and football games, choir performances and dance recitals were weekly events. Taking trips and spending holidays and special occasions together was always a priority. They spent the last 15 years traveling with friends in the Utah Miata Club. They drove top down on many winding U.S. roads and traveled to Europe several times. Lou served in the capacities of Director, Vice President and President and loved planning drives for the Club. They were grateful for the special friends, memories and adventures they all shared.
Lou enjoyed camping, competitive bowhunting, ATV’s, building things with his hands, spending time at the cabin that they recently remodeled and playing games with friends and family. He also enjoyed refurbishing classic cars with his sons: including a ’58 Fairlane, ’68 Chevelle and a ‘63 Falcon.
Lou took pleasure in spending time with his sweetheart, Carol and their little dog Bella. As he would say, “Another day in paradise”. They enjoyed concerts, musicals and movies, attending grandkids sports events, playing games with family and friends as well as watching tv at home snuggled up on the couch.
He was a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always made sure they felt loved. His quick wit, warm smile, hearty hello and loving personality won the hearts of all that knew him.
Lou is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn, sons Landon (Elisa), James (Hillary), Nick (Annette), daughter Stephanie (Joe) and his two brothers Henk and Bert (Virginia) along with his grandchildren Sierra (Josh), Courtney, Caitlin, Cameron, Colton, Torin, Chase, Grady, a granddaughter on the way and two great-grandchildren Jack and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers and a sister.
