Luis Eugene Salazar

November 7, 1951 — January 19, 2022

Luis Eugene Salazar, born November 7, 1951, lost his life to Covid on January 19, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Luis Salazar, his mother Jean Hammond, his stepson, Matthew Pollock, his brother Michael Salazar, and his stepbrothers Stephen Highland and Ricky Highland.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Colleen O’Brien; his brothers Toby Salazar, David Salazar; and Buddy Noth; his stepmother, Phyllis Perry; his stepsister Georgia McKee; his stepbrother Robert Highland; his stepdaughter Heather Pollock Hose; and 4 step grandchildren—Alex Cox, Ian Hose, Autumn Pollock, and Zac Hose. Luis also had an extended family of loved ones and many friends.
After a month long battle, we lost our beloved husband, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to this wretched disease. Luis was a proud, strong, self-made man. He didn’t require a great deal of material wealth to be content; because his never-ending curiosity made every day interesting for him. Luis thought life was an adventure; and dearly loved to shared his passions with others.
Luis was a gentleman in every aspect of his life. His chivalry and compassion made so many people’s lives easier.  Luis was totally devoted to his mother, Phyllis. He didn’t let a lot of people into his life, but he believed strongly in the value of family. Luis loved being “grandpa.” We all knew if we were ever in need, you could always call Luis.
With his natural intellect, Luis was an artist, entrepreneur, and inventor. He had a great respect for his father; who significantly influenced his life. He was a constant tinker, who with a little ingenuity could fix almost anything. Luis excelled at painting, photography, playing the guitar, videography, home remodeling, and carpentry—he was even a reasonably good car mechanic.
Seeking perfection from himself on any project or work assignment—Luis always did a professional job. He tried his hand at many different ventures, but Luis was a civil engineering technician as a profession for most of his life. He designed and built liner-systems for major drainage and reclamation projects. He often worked as a finish carpenter and home builder. He did concrete pumping for new home construction. For a time, he had his own large-haul trucking company.
