Lucy Ilene Simmons

Lucy Peterson Simmons, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Lucy was born on June 15, 1934 in Woodland, Utah to Noel and Irma Pack Peterson. She was the fourth of five children. She was raised in Woodland, Utah and graduated from South Summit High School. Lucy married Weldon John Simmons in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 18, 1952. Lucy worked hard her whole life. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Sutton, First Security Bank for many years and as a teacher’s aide at Backman Elementary. She was a talented seamstress, a good cook and baker, loved to crochet, read, watch her favorite shows, NCIS and Dancing with the Stars and also took care of seven adopted stray cats.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Weldon; daughters, Christine, Gloria (Jerry) Herrera; son, Bruce (Sherri) Simmons; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Carlisle and Beverly (Cameron) Hansen. She loved her family very much and always asked about the kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fred Peterson and sister, Veon Keysor.
The family would like to thank Christine and Dad for taking such good care of mom the last four years. We would also like to thank Elevation Hospice (Amy and her team) and Home Instead for taking
care of Mom the last two weeks. We appreciate the tender loving care they provided to Lucy and our family.
A Viewing will be held Friday, July 14, 2017 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Graveside Services will follow at Memorial Redwood
