Loyal R. Bennett

September 14, 1929 — May 4, 2024

Salt Lake City

Loyal R. Bennett died peacefully surrounded by his family on May 4, 2024 in South Salt Lake, UT at age 94. He was born on September 14, 1929. He married Dorothy Bowen on December 15, 1952 in the Logan Temple.

Loyal was raised on a farm and knew how to work hard. He loved his country and served as a mechanic in the Korean War and on the National Guard. He continued his education at Utah State University and was later hired by Freed's Motor Company in Salt Lake City, where he worked until he retired. Loyal’s hobbies included motorcycle trips with Dorothy, fishing, ice fishing, and camping.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faithfully serving as Bishop, high counselor, and in other less public but meaningful ways. One of his favorite callings was as a scoutmaster. Loyal and Dorothy served in the Dallas TX mission and in the Salt Lake Temple for many years. He willingly worked on many people's cars. He was also a supportive member and president of the local Lions Club chapter.

Loyal is survived by his wife Dorothy, children Susan Losee (Leonard), Kevin Bennett (Debbie), and Rodney Bennett (Judy), sister Lola Grower (Chuck), 17 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Dilbert Riley Bennett and Claire Mildred Douglas, siblings Lloyd Bennett, Delbert Bennett, Farlene Talent, Mildred Waddell, Douglass Bennett, George Bennett, Ivaloo Reese, Norman Jay Bennett, and Dilbert Bennett. He was also preceded in death by his son Mitchell Bennett and his grandson Ricky Burge.
