Louise Ralphs Anderson “Grams”, age 91, passed away peacefully in her home October 20, 2016. She was born March 11, 1925 to Mirl Hunter Ralphs and Blanche Cook in Ferron, Utah.
Louise married Desmond Shields June 9, 1947 (later divorced). Together they had two beautiful children Debbie and Ralph. She married Kent Anderson January 27, 1983. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple.
Grams was passionate about her family. She was supportive and tried not to miss anything. From rodeos, dance and piano recitals, girl’s weekends, family vacations to sports activities. She was adopted as the official team grandma for many sports teams.
She loved to entertain. You can’t find anyone who didn’t feel like family in her home. This extended to great holiday parties with kids searching for golden eggs in her yard or laughing over the candy bar game.
Grams loved people and they knew it. She had a friendly smile and outgoing personality. She served people in any way she could. Everyone who knew her loved her and she will be greatly missed.
Grams was a hard worker and loved caring for her vegetable and flower garden. Every child who entered received a rhubarb stem umbrella and a pocket full of fresh peas. She most definitely had a green thumb. She knew the names of every flower and enjoyed pointing them out in her yard and on nature walks.
She was known for her cooking, especially her famous cinnamon and dinner rolls and always had a tray in the freezer to pull out for anyone who stopped in. She made the best Sunday dinners where the food was served with stories of life on the Ferron farm.
She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Every baby in four counties received a hand trimmed blanket and burp cloth. She loved making dresses for Debbie, family and friends. Sometimes they came with an infamous perm.
Grams was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many callings over the years serving in Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary. Her favorites included teaching the Primary children who were turning 8 years old, because they were preparing to be baptized. Another favorite was being a visiting teaching coordinator.
She worked for the telephone company, Sears and K-mart and as a long time Avon lady. She worked many years at Bingham High School as a lunch cook and cashier. She loved the students and was Bingham’s number one fan.
She is survived by her two children Debbie Olsen, South Jordan; Ralph (Wendy) Shields, South Jordan; 6 grandchildren Kelsey (Shawn) Croney, Ashley (Trever) Wright, Megan (Jason) Christensen, Darcey (Brian) Blackner, Nicholas (Tauni) Shields, Whitney (Todd) Howey and 19 great grandchildren. Step-children Chris, Cherie, Jill, Jody, Eric and their families. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings Barbara, Emily, Max, Ann, Kathleen and James.
