Louise Poynor Pratt passed away on October 9, 2018.
Born to Claude Marion Poynor and Alice Shepherd, Louise was born in Broken Arrow, Tulsa county, Oklahoma, on April 29, 1930. She was the fifth child of six children.
By her first birthday Louise was not able to walk. Her mother consulted their doctor and found that Louise had contracted polio at some point, which affected her right leg.
The family moved to Springville, Utah where Louise lived until the age of 15, when they move to Salt Lake City, Utah. It was at this point that Louise was able to surgery on her right knee, which allowed her to walk better. In Salt Lake City, Louise met Betty Leemaster, who would become a lifelong friend until Betty’s passing.
School was very important to Louise and her parents could not always afford to pay for high school. To be sure she was able to attend and graduate not only high school, she took a job in a bakery which lasted through college.
She attended Trade Tech in downtown Salt Lake City. This is where she met her future husband, Robert. He told her that he was too old for her, but for some reason they continue to be together. They were married August 15, 1952. Their first child, Steven Robert Pratt was born July 5, 1953. Two years later, Louise had a miscarriage. She felt the child move the day before, and then all of a sudden couldn’t feel him. After she delivered this still birth child, she became very sad. Robert’s brother and sister-in-law were not able to care for their infant daughter Patty, so it was a great blessing when Louise and Robert had the opportunity to care for the baby for nine months, to help out their family. This helped Louise with her grief.
On March 21, 1957, Louise and Robert welcomed a daughter, Michelle, into their home. On June 5, 1958, the small family was sealed for Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A few months later on August 18, 1958, they welcomed a son into their home and named him Frank J Pratt.
They built their first home in Kearns, Utah, but after a few years, they moved to Granger, Utah in a new neighborhood and lived there until 1977. They moved from here to a home in Taylorsville but moved back to Granger shortly after and this is where Louise spent the last 40 years of her life.
In April 2004, she lost her son Frank to unknown causes and five months later, in September 2004, she also lost her husband Robert. He was 12 years older than her and had suffered many health difficulties and afflictions. She would always give in to his wants with the exception being, when he wanted to move out of Utah. Her family, brothers and sisters, and parents, were very important to her. There was no way she was going to move away from family.
She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. They were the light of her life. When her two great grandsons, Ezekiel and Quinten were born, she was so happy. She had a very special relationship with Ezekiel. When talking on the phone, or Skyping, he always wanted to talk with his GiGi.
Louise had many interests and hobbies. She spent her career sewing draperies. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, ceramics, and taking care of her family.
She taught Primary for several years. She loved Primary! She taught the girls from age 8 to 11. She loved those girls.
She had a very wonderful sense of humor. She was not especially social, but when you talked with her you would definitely enjoy the conversation.
She is survived by her son, Steven R Pratt, daughter, Michelle Pratt Estrada, grandchildren; Amy Estrada Tolman, and husband, Jered, Jacob S Estrada, and Aaron M Estrada. Also, two great grandchildren, Ezekiel E Tolman and Quinten E Tolman. She also is survived by one sister, Jackie Rich, and one brother, Vernon (Bud) Poynor and his wife Barbara.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, her son, Frank, siblings; (Bro) Glen C Poynor, (Sis) Marion Richards and Laura Winters, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
