Louis Orlin Johnson

August 3, 1928 — September 2, 2016

Louis Orlin Johnson Jr., 88, of Kearns, Utah died September 2, 2016.
“Orlin” Johnson, son of Louis Orlin Johnson and Irene Anderson Johnson, loving husband of Maria Dolores de Faria Paes Johnson, was born on August 3rd, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He passed away on September 2nd at Holladay Health Care Center after struggling with Alzheimer’s.
Orlin was the first of five children born to Louis and Irene Johnson. He had one sister, Esther Loween (Dean R) Lewis, and three brothers; Norman Ray (Helena de Faria Paes) Johnson, Nolan Dale (Donna Marie Alex) Johnson, and Marvin Dee Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Dolores, and all of his children; Peter Louis Johnson, Gregory Lee (Heidi Robertson) Johnson, Wendell Roy (Amy Mooso) Johnson, Mark Steven (Robin Gilbert) Johnson, Paul David (Fiatagata Amani) Johnson, Melanie Kay (Richard Joseph) Bailey, Loralee (Bruce David) North, and Denise Cook. He is also survived by thirty-six grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, all of his siblings, and one grandson, Vincent Kai Johnson.
Orlin was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Brazil where he met Dolores. When he returned home, he asked her to marry him via correspondence. She accepted and travelled to Utah with her sister Helena. Orlin and Dolores were married in the Manti LDS temple on July 8, 1953.
Orlin served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. That is where their first child was born.  He was honorably discharged in January of 1956.
Orlin started his career at the Sperry Company. Several name and ownership changes later he retired from Unisys Corporation in 1993.  After his retirement, he and Dolores served a mission together in Lisbon, Portugal.
This beloved man had a truly Christ-like attitude. He not only served faithfully in every calling he ever had, he also sought out opportunities to serve others daily.  When he started shoveling snow more often than not he wouldn’t stop until one or two neighbors on each side of him also had their walks and driveways cleared.  Several times he brought home a homeless person to give them the opportunity for a bath, a bed, and a hot meal.
Orlin loved music. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to use it.  He sang in the Ward Choir and invited each of his children to join him there.  He played the ukulele and would play and sing anytime and anywhere.  The caregivers at the care center would comment about his cheery personality, smiling face, and the humming and singing that they knew would lead them to where he was.
He also loved camping, fishing, and deer hunting. But mostly, he loved his family and the time he spent with them. He will be greatly missed.
