Lorraine Meredith Turner

September 24, 1930 — June 22, 2021

Born September 24, 1930 to Bessy and Ralph Meredith.
Lorraine grew up in the salt lake area attending Emerson Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High and East High School. She first met Jerry at Emerson though they attended other schools together at various times. At the age of 20 while Jerry was home on leave from the Navy an aunt of Jerry’s asked Lorraine if she would like to get together with him. After talking for a while Jerry jokingly asked if she wanted to get married, to his surprise she said yes! They went to Washington and were wed on May 21, 1951. Unfortunately Jerry had to leave for Korea a day later, so Lorraine returned to Salt Lake and faithfully waited for him to finish his service while giving birth to their first child. A year later he was discharged from the Navy and Lorraine met him in San Francisco where they finally had their long-awaited honeymoon.
They returned to Salt Lake to begin their new family life. In 1954 they bought their house in Cottonwood Heights where they raised their family of 6 children: Gerald (Jody), Steven (Debra), Michael, Pamela, Shelly T Isom (Taylor) and Kelly (Jimena).
In her adult life Lorraine was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to more than one can count. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and joyfully served in many callings through the years, with one of her favorite positions being the chorister.
In her younger years Lorraine held a career as a telephone operator and boy she has stories to tell. Her main focus outside the family and church life was her commitment to the community. Lorraine was a staunch community activist giving her time to the Utah Republican party, member of the Night Out against Crime (she even had a badge), and organizing events for Cottonwood Heights as well held a position as the Chaplin with the Women’s State Legislative Council. In addition, we can never forget her hard work and commitment to her many fans of Butlerville days.
Her senior years included volunteer work at the state capital which she enjoyed immensely. She was also very proud of the awards she received for her work there. Tributes from the Cottonwood Heights Mayor and Senator Orin Hatch while sitting on the committee of the Lupus Foundation. Lorraine and Gerald were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 15, 2012. There are no words that can properly relay the amazing Lady Lorraine was, and a lady she was. Lorraine was an amazing mother of 6 successful children, she was kind, caring, a leader, had tremendous empathy for all no matter their circumstance in life. She led by example and our hearts are full with the amount of grace and dedication she had for her family, church family, community with tremendous emphasis on her work for the children of God.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Gerald Turner of 70 years, her six children, 12 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren.
