Lorraine Hatch Smith

May 21, 1930 — February 2, 2016

Lorraine Hatch Smith, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend lost her valiant 10-1/2 year battle with cancer on February 2, 2016, surrounded by loving family who are grateful for the 10 extra years they were given.
Lorraine was born on May 21, 1930, in Chino Valley, Arizona, to C. Jenner and Irene Hatch.  She spent her childhood among her siblings and many cousins, aunts, and uncles in Chino Valley and Prescott.   She graduated from Prescott High School in 1947.  She married her husband, Larry D. Smith, in the Mesa Arizona Temple on February 1, 1952.  After a short time in Utah, they spent 13 years in the Phoenix area, then moved to Utah and lived in Murray from 1967 until the current time in the same home.
Lorraine served faithfully in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, twice as Relief Society president, and many other callings including leading the music and playing the piano and organ in the Murray 11th Ward.  She was active in the extraction program and then indexing, having indexed over 159,000 records and arbitrating over 425,000.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Bud Bailey Construction Company for over 35 years, making many lifelong friends there.  Bud was a great friend and she treasured her friendship with him and his family.  After her retirement, she lovingly and faithfully cared for her mother, Irene, until she passed away at the age of 105.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Larry, and 5 of their 6 daughters, Maureen (Layne) Bryson of Taylorsville, Ronda (Keith) Patrick of Layton, Sheryl Smith of Taylorsville, Terri (Steve) Soelberg of West Valley City, and Karen (Jeff) McNeal of Tonopah, Arizona; brothers, Darrell (Rinda) Hatch, David (Delcie) Hatch, Von Hatch, and sister-in-law, Rose Marie Hatch.  She was the grandmother to 18, great-grandmother to 22, and great-great grandmother to 1.  She was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, Roger William Patrick and Lora Brewer; her parents; 2 brothers and a sister.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Nibley of Utah Cancer Specialists and his staff for their loving care for Lorraine for over 10 years.  Also, the caregivers from Quality Hospice for their sweet care in her last days.  They would also like to thank the members of the Murray 11th Ward for their friendship and support throughout her life, and the meals, visits and love given during her illness.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016, 6-8 p.m. at the Murray 11th Ward, 5750 S. Nena Way (just west of State Street) with the funeral service there on Saturday, February 6, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing  from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services.  Burial will be at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S.
