Lorna Louise Nelson Lee had a happy reunion with her father Cecil, her Mother Hannah Louise, her brother Deloy, her husband Dean, her son Robyn, her daughter-in-law Linda, and her grandchildren Lisa and Jordan as her sweet soul continued on her eternal journey. What a happy reunion that must have been. Lorna passed from this life on December 24, 2024. Born in Genola Utah on April 5, 1929, Lorna spent many happy youthful hours with her grandma, mother, father, and brother on the Genola farm. She loved those days and the farm animals and landscapes. Later in her life when she took her kids and grandkids on road trips she encouraged us always to watch the beautiful scenery as we traveled and to look at the “pretty cows.”
Mom graduated as valedictorian of West High School and met her eternal companion in Salt Lake City. She was married to Dean Harmon Lee on September 23, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children, Robyn (Letha), Tamra (Greg), Bryan (Linda), Darin (Dianne), and Dayna (Scott). Later mom and dad invited another child, Pheobe Nez, into their home because there was still enough love to go around.
As her children attended school, mom worked to improve the relations with educators by serving for four years as PTA president. Later she helped organize a community school program and administered a successful evening school for 23 years providing continuing education opportunities for many Westside residents.
Mom was active in the community serving on the Westside Community Council and the Salt Lake Planning and Zoning Commission by invitation of two separate mayors. She helped build and improve her Glendale community, contributing to the construction of the 13th South viaduct, the development of the Jordan River Parkway, and the building of the Sorensen Center. Her contributions benefit the residents of the Glendale community to this day.
Mom loved camping, boating, and traveling in her motorhome through Utah and the western states. Her children and grandchildren speak of trips to the lake and Utah sites as some of their favorite experiences and memories. She instilled in us a love for the outdoors, which is a legacy that continues with her children, grandchildren, and even her great-grandchildren. That family legacy includes 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to the exceptional people at the Brighton House for their compassionate care.
