Lorna Doone Lyman Mccaleb

February 15, 1925 — April 29, 2020

Doone entered paradise on April 29, 2020 at the age of 95. She was born February 12, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Virgil Elton Lyman and Lorna Doone Ridd Lyman. She has one brother, Sherman Ridd Lyman (1921-1975).
Doone had a long and productive life. She graduated from East High School and married Darrell Kenneth Cloud March 27, 1943 in Santa Ana, California. After the war they moved back to Utah where she remained. They were later divorced. On July 23, 1953 Doone married James Vernon McCaleb, who passed away July 18, 1992.
Career: Doone taught herself bookkeeping and worked as a payroll clerk and bookkeeper for Associated Foods (AG) 34 years, retiring in 1990.
Service: Doone was a proud member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (her grandmother came across the plains in a covered wagon train). She served many years as a docent for the DUP Museum in Salt Lake City. She was elected to be her local Company Treasurer. She held that post until 2016.
Activities: Doone was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and participated in many activities including tours, writing poems, short stories and of course attending parties. She liked hiking in National and State Parks; attending football games at BYU (her grandson played in the marching band) and Utah State University (her grandson was equipment manager); Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City; and traveling with family members (London, Scandinavia, Europe, Kanab, California, Texas, New Mexico).
Hobby: Saving cats & dogs. There was always at least one dog and numerous stray cats in our home. She once said she would save them all if she could.
Greatest Joy: Doone was most proud of her family and cherished them dearly. Her children – Rebecca Christiansen, John (Teri) McCaleb, Linda (Jim) Sly, Jim (Sody) McCaleb; 15 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter will miss her laughter, birthday cards, giant home and yard to play in. We love you Grandma Doone.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Beehive Homes of Riverton who took such tender care of her the past 28 months. Thank you Juan, Angie and marvelous staff. We also appreciate beyond measure the service and care given by Rocky Mountain Hospice during the end of her life. Thank you Laura, Diana and caring staff.
Private services will be held for the family.
