Lonnie Dale Stuart

December 31, 1940 — July 17, 2022

July 17, 2022 dementia took our husband, father, friend, brother, grandfather and recently great-grandfather; Lonnie Dale Stuart at age 81. Lon was born December 31, 1940 in Ontario, California to Robert James Stuart and Vienna Farnworth Stuart.  He has an older sister, Muriel Joy Stuart Timbrel who was also born in Ontario, California on October 21, 1938.  He also had two older brothers, Hiram Herbert and Silas Kelly who are deceased.  He attended Chaffee High School in Ontario, California and graduated in 1958.  He served a mission to the Alaskan Canadian Mission from October 31, 1960 – November 1962.  When first assigned to his mission it was called the Western Canadian Mission under David O. McKay, J. Reuben Clark Jr. and Henry D. Moyle from the First Presidency of the Church. After returning from his mission, he attended BYU.  While attending school he also worked in the Broadcasting Department and the press box during games and other events, including taking photos of the Homecoming Queens.  Lon graduated in Journalism and Communications.  Later earning a Master’s Degree in August 1969.
Lon married Colleen Carpenter, August 30, 1969 in the Oakland California LDS Temple. At this time Lon was employed with the Associated Press, which took them to Louisville Kentucky.  Where he was a writer and covered a murder trial in Tennessee.  After living in Kentucky, he was transferred to New York City where Lon changed to the technical side of the Associated Press.  While working in New York City, he and Colleen lived in Booton, New Jersey and Lon commuted into the city for work by riding the subway. It was here, that their first child, a daughter; Julie was born. The couple lived on the East Coast for about three years, then transferred to the San Francisco Bay area with the Associated Press, where he covered the news on the Patty Hearst case.
Here in California, two more daughters were born; Eileen Denise in San Pablo, California, and Joyce in Richmond California. The family stayed here for four and a half years, then transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah with the Associated Press.
Since Lon traveled a lot with the Associated Press, he was able to work with some other companies. The Robert Bosch company, where Lon wrote the manuals and documentations for different products. Colleen benefited from Lon’s employment by receiving the Robert Bosch mixer & blender to help her in the kitchen. Another company he worked for OEC Medical Systems, by the Salt Lake Airport.  This company was part of General Electric. There, Lon wrote the technical manuals for some of the medical machines for the hospitals. Then it was here, in Bountiful that their fourth child; David Alan Stuart was born at Lakeview Hospital.
One of Lon’s hobbies was Ham Radio.  He would be able to communicate with people all over the world.  Lon wrote and published their Ham Radio Newsletter for 30 years. Lon also wrote an Emergency Preparedness Manual for the City of North Salt Lake.
Lon and Colleen served a senior mission in Tennessee Nashville Mission, March 2005 – March 2007. They both served in the Nashville Tennessee Temple, and later served in the Bountiful Utah Temple.
Lon is survived by his older sister Joy Timbrel, his loving wife, Colleen, daughters; Julie (Jeff) Derbidge, Eileen Denise Madison, Joyce (Charles)Farnsworth, & David (Stephanie) Stuart.  Twelve grandchildren, Brandon, Darren, Stephen, Joanna, Abbey, Samantha, Alexandra, Sadie, Tanner, Lincoln, Russell, Clara Sue, and one great-grandson; Luke Elijah.
Viewing will be held Friday, July 29, 2022; 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at; 3599 Orchard Drive, Bountiful, Utah 84010.  Funeral services will be held in the chapel on Saturday, July 30, 2022; at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior to the services at 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.
