LOLA JEAN CONRAD HELLER
Oct. 24, 1924 – Feb. 17 2016

Lola Heller, 91, passed away February 17, 2016, in Draper, Utah from complications of renal failure, having fought and beaten the odds for years. That was the story of her life.
Her first years were spent on the family farm in Riley, Kansas. Between the Dust Bowl and the Great Crash on Wall Street (which occurred on her 5th birthday), they would lose the farm and move to the big city of Manhattan, Kansas. After years of hard times, one by one her parents and siblings would move to Salt Lake for better opportunities. Lola stayed behind to wait for her husband Vic Conrad to return from WWII. But not long after his return an accident would make her a widow with a young son. She moved in with her in-laws and they become her second family. Especially Vic’s youngest sister Darlene and soon to be husband Frank, who she would remain close to until they passed on together this past November in a car accident.
Lola eventually packed up her Pontiac with her young son Darryl and joined her family in Salt Lake. She met her second husband, Henry Heller, after being set up by her big sister. They married and combined families, his young son Sonny and Darryl. They kept busy owning and operating Heller’s Food Mart on 39th South 5th East, and boating, fishing, water skiing, hunting and snowmobiling. Together they had 2 daughters, Janie and Paula, and the escapades continued. They sold the store and moved to Sandy in 1979.
In 1987 she lost her daughter Janie to an unspeakable tragedy, and she and her husband would find themselves caring for their 7 month old grandson Christopher, whom they would later adopt. It was a tremendous feat at her age, but unthinkable not to so. Chris was able to return some of that care to her in her last years.
Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Iona Dallinga, husband, Vic Conrad, husband, Henry Heller, daughter, Janie Heller, sister and brother in-law, Inez and Irvin Hirsch, and brother and sister in-law, Frank and Darlene Hooper, and her very best furry friend Molly. She is survived by son, Darryl (Claudia) Conrad, son, Sonny (Kathy) Heller, daughter, Paula (Steve) Henriod, grandson/adopted son Christopher Heller, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to Tender Care Hospice and her nurse Bridgette Hansen, who has been by her side throughout.
