Lois Jeanette Coombs Sprunt

February 6, 1930 — November 14, 2019

Lois C. Sprunt died peacefully at home on November 14, 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She came into this world on February 6, 1930 in Salt Lake City to Kenneth E. Coombs and Lavern Hales Coombs.  From the beginning, Lois earnestly sought to live a fulfilling life.
Lois was child number three, in a family of 10 – we lovingly call them ‘The Big Ten’.  She went to Arlington Elementary School as a child, attended Irving Jr. High and attended both South and East high schools. Lois attended BYU but transferred to University of Utah where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.  Jack says she had to transfer to UofU, so that she could meet her prince charming…Jack.  Six months after Jack and Lois began dating, Jack left for a mission to the Great Lakes Mission and then six months after that, Lois left to serve in the Eastern States Mission.
Jack and Lois arrived home from their missions just in time to register for school and finish their degrees. They were married August 5th, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. The beginning of a brand-new era began.
Lois always wanted a large family, and her dream came true when she had nine children, two of which were twins.
Some of her accomplishments and callings were ward Primary President and Stake Primary President and in the 70’s, Lois was called to serve on the Primary General board by Elder Boyd K. Packer, followed by a calling given by Elder Neil A. Maxwell to serve on the LDS Church Correlation Board. She wrote a song for the Primary Children’s Songbook, published in 1978.   Lois had a talent for writing and producing shows!  She was asked to produce the Back to School Carnival and Fashion Show for the Salt Lake Retail Merchants Association, and a program for the Primary Children’s Bi-Centennial Celebration.  She wrote many roadshows and other programs.
She was also very proud of the fact that her family was chosen to participate in a film that was produced for the Washington D.C. Visitor’s Center and the D. C. Temple open house.
Lois loved family and being with her siblings, they were a close-knit bunch.  So, the tradition of ‘Family Camp’ was started and lasted for decades.  This wasn’t your run of the mill family reunion; it was an epic event that spanned a few days of non-stop action. Wonderful memories were made.
All of Lois and Jack’s children are married in the temple.  She is the proud grandma of 33 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
After Lois and Jack became empty nesters, they moved from Federal Heights to the Cottonwood area, where he served as Bishop and they served together on an extended inner-city mission.  Lois has loved her time in the Cottonwood 11th ward.
She died at the age of 89, and we can truly say that she had a wonderful life.  A wonderful marriage. A wonderful family.
She is survived by her husband, William John Sprunt.  Her children, William Mark Sprunt (Patty), Jan Sprunt Prows (Jeffrey), Roger Craig Sprunt (Nellie), Michael John Sprunt (Mette), Michelle Sprunt Spence, Ginger Sprunt Baker (Brent), Matthew David Sprunt (Hollie), Thomas Alexander Sprunt (Whitney), Christopher James Sprunt (Eduarda).  Her siblings, Barbara Self, Kenneth Coombs, Jr., Melba Welch, Mary Jo Chamberlin, Alan Coombs, David Coombs and Steven Coombs.
She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Laverne, siblings Lynn and Shirley and her son-in-law, Michael Spence.
