On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, this world lost an amazing father, educator, gentleman, and example of humanity. He was 96 years old.
Lloyd V. Tilt was born January 22, 1918, to Abraham Edward Valentine Tilt and Elizabeth Lovina Neve. He and his five brothers grew up in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Lloyd graduated from East High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Utah, then served his country in the Air Force during World War II. During his military service in England he met his future wife, Signe Marie Pearson. They were married on October 17, 1944, in High Wycombe, England.
Following the war, Lloyd and Signe settled in Salt Lake City raising four children together. He completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Utah and spent his lifetime as an educator and administrator with the Salt Lake Area Vocational School, which became Salt Lake Trade Technical College, and later evolved into the Salt Lake Community College system we have today.
Lloyd is survived by his children: Marsha Warr (Steven), Lloyd Tilt (Prilla), Edward Tilt (Faye), and Linda Dumas (Curtis), 13 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Signe, his parents, his five brothers (Jim, Frank, Earl, Ray, and Paul), and by his granddaughter Jennifer Warr Jewkes.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Elysian Gardens.
Our family extends our thanks and love for all of Dad’s caregivers and many friends at Wentworth Assisted Living in Draper, Utah and at Summit Hospice. Dad’s care was always kind, compassionate, and professional.
