Lloyd Jay Allen, 97, of Salt Lake City, Utah, left his world to join his beloved wife, Leona, on Friday, March 6, 2015, surrounded by loving family. Lloyd was born August 10, 1917, to Orson and Elizabeth Allen in Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High School and later attended business school. He married Leona Selman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 16, 1942.
For most of his life Lloyd was a successful salesman and was later a tour guide with his wife. Together Lloyd and Leona traveled throughout most of the world sharing their love for people and travel with the many who joined them on their tours.
Lloyd was the personification of love and service. He was always ready to give a helping hand. He was a loyal friend and kept close to friends his whole life. He was faithful in contacting hundreds on their birthdays and special events and enjoyed visiting those who needed cheering up. Everyone who knew Lloyd loved him and felt his sweetness and good humor.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in his church, including Bishop and as a missionary on three missions – New Zealand as a young man and with his sweetheart in New Zealand, and on Temple Square. He deeply loved the Maori people of New Zealand and loved to entertain by performing the “Hakka”.
He loved being with family and attending family activities and took pride in letting everyone know that he had many progeny (more than 100).
Lloyd is survived by his son, Terry (Kayleen) Allen of Grapevine, TX; daughter, Taunia (Dennis) Lombardi of Sandy, UT; son, Bradley (Kristene) Allen of Centerville, UT; Bret (Cindy) Allen of Salt Lake City; and daughter-in-law, Eileen Borgeson (Jeffrey) of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, and son, Jeffrey. He has 28 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 10:30 am in the LDS Stake Center at 1933 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City with a viewing prior to the funeral at 9:00-10:15 am. Interment will take place at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, UT, immediately following.
