Lily Lucille Slama Engle Minter

February 20, 1928 — October 2, 2014

Lily Lucille Slama Engle Minter, 86 years old, left this earth life on October 2, 2014 in Draper, Utah surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 20, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Alfred Thomas and Ella Bitton Slama who had 6 children and she was the only daughter, who was a coal miner’s daughter. Lily Lucille married Homer Engle then later married Lorn Kenneth Minter. She is survived by her five children Kathy, Judy, Roy, Lorna, and Kenneth.
She had 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Lily Lucille made friends easily and three of her lifetime friends included Hank, Wilma, and Lynn, whom she loved dearly. She was a beautiful, detailed seamstress, upholsterer, and also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Some of the things she sewed were wedding gowns, coats, pants, pajamas, doll clothes, and teddy bears. She also enjoyed dressing them up. She upholstered her couch and kitchen chairs. She also made the Scottish Piper’s jackets and band jackets for the Salt Lake Scottish Bagpipe Band. They marveled at how well the uniforms were made with intricate detail and tailored to fit. In her honor, a Scottish Bagpiper will play Amazing Grace at her funeral.
She loved gardening, pulling weeds, and watching her vegetables and strawberries grow. Lily Lucille took a lot of pride in her yard and making it beautiful. She loved to bake homemade goodies such as banana nut bread, zucchini bread, fudge, peanut brittle, divinity, taffy, cookies and made goody plates for her family. She had a sweet tooth and often referred to her secret candy stash as pogey bait. Christmas and Halloween were her two favorite holidays of the year. Her favorite night time soap operas were Knott’s Landing, Falcon Crest, and Dallas. Lily Lucille enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show and singing along to her favorite melodies of Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, and among many more greatest hits. Moon River, Somewhere My Love, and White Cliffs of Dover were her favorite songs she would sing along with. After her hip surgery, while she was recovering in the facility, she would sing lullabies to the babies. The nurse would ask her to sing a little quieter so the babies could sleep.
Lily Lucille was a very sincere, giving, hardworking, selfless woman that put everyone’s needs first before her own. Her Grandpa Bitton called her his Tiger Lily when she was a little girl. Rest in Peace our little Tiger Lily.
