Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Wife and Friend passed away on September 27, 2023, sleeping peacefully at home in her favorite chair. Lillian was known as Lil by her many friends and family and lovingly known as “Hag” by her nieces, nephews, or basically any kids who came over to hang out and swim in their pool.
Lil was born in Salida, Colorado to Thomas E. and Edna Rosa Gallegos on September 27th, 1947. She grew up in many small towns in Utah and settled down in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from South High and went on to learn many skills including modeling, soldering, Q.A. Inspector, and many facets of the travel industry.
Lil later married Don McComas on January 12th, 1974 in Elko, Nevada. She loved to make sure he knew that she was the boss and willing to supervise anything he was doing. Both liked to lay out by, and swim in, their pool all summer. They liked to play games like Backgammon and UNO to see who would cook dinner, which Lil always seemed to win. Don and Lil watched shows together like 'The Amazing Race', 'Survivor', and other competition and cooking shows. Her favorite actors included Andy Garcia, whom she met in person, and Omar Sharif. She loved Diet Cokes and always had one with her or was asking Don to get her one.
Lil loved family dinners at her mom’s, her sisters, or anywhere she knew there was good company and food. She also loved going to her mom’s house on weekends for game nights. A couple of her favorites there were a quarters card game and different Trivial Pursuit games. She liked to quiz her grandkids with questions and give them chances to win money. Lil also liked to play games on her cell phone, which she took pride in telling Gino and her grandsons that she ‘played to win’ and had fun showing them her high scores and levels achieved. Lil bowled in different leagues and even won 1st-Place on a work league with Don.
Lil enjoyed anything that had to do with shopping, traveling, eating, or drinking, and being around her family and friends. She liked going on as many cruises as she could with her favorites being Windstar and Princess Cruise Lines. One of her favorite shows was “The Love Boat” where she dreamed of and set a goal to go on a cruise. She loved taking family on trips to many international locations around the world. Her favorite places were Jerusalem, The Vatican, Rome, Tahiti, and basically wherever she was heading to next. She particularly loved heading down to Mesquite, NV to stay with her sister Diane and Jim Georgelas at their condo. A couple of her favorite things to do there were playing Bingo and watching the sunsets through the palm trees on their back patio with a cold beer. When at home Lil loved to walk down to her sister Geri’s house and enjoy a bottle of wine or margaritas and to spend time visiting. She really enjoyed teasing her brother-in-law Ross Valdez while there as well. Lil’s favorite teams were the Utah Jazz, Denver Broncos, and University of Utah Utes.
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart and Lil will be greatly missed by all those whom she shared memories with. I loved my mom more than anything and I am grateful for everything she taught me.
Lil is survived by her son Gino Erevia, sister Geri Valdez (Ross), brother Ben Gallegos, her three grandsons Landon, Jace, and Bryce, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members who dearly loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don McComas, parents Thomas E. and Edna Rosa Gallegos, sister Diane Loumis, brother Tommy Gallegos, and nephew Isaac Martinez.
