Lila Margaret Brown Crookston, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to the family.
Lila was born to Lynn and Margaret Brown in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 3, 1931. She married Robert Hans Crookston in the Salt Lake Temple on June 18, 1953. Lila was a supportive military wife and followed Robert who was in the Navy, traveling to several places as they started and grew their family like San Diego, CA, Norfolk, VA, Washington, Florida, and finally settling in West Valley City, UT.
Lila is survived by her children Brian (Tami) Crookston, Teresa Fowler, Vicky Crookston (daughter-in-law), Kevin Crookston, Karen (Rod) Hackworth, Lynn (Tammy) Crookston, Lynette (Aaron) Richeson, Kathy (Hal) Westenskow, and her sister Gay (Dick) Yates, and sister-in-law Margaret Brown. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren whom she loved and cherished. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Crookston, brother Lamar Brown, and sisters Doris (Reeve) Norman and Carol (Allen) Webb, son Stephen Crookston and granddaughter Jennifer Hackworth Shutt.
Lila was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including sharing her talent for playing the piano in primary and relief society. She was a diligent visiting teacher. She was a shining example of faith, always teaching her children by her Christlike example.
Lila’s passions included music, reading, word puzzles, playing games, and being with family. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in spending time with her family and in the simple moments of life. As long as she was able, she made sure the family got together at least one Sunday a month for dinner and to celebrate the birthdays that month. Whether through her kind words, her living presence, or her unshakeable faith, she made everyone feel special and deeply cared for.
Her spirit will live on in the memories of those she touched with her love, compassion, and kindness. Though she will no longer be among us here, her legacy of love and family will endure for generations to come.
The family would like to thank Intermountain Healthcare Hospice, especially Rob, Dennis, Eric, and the Chaplain, for their compassion and care for Lila.
