Likitoni Kauvaka

August 10, 1936 — November 13, 2021

Sitini Likitoni “Liki” Kauvaka passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on November 13, 2021 in Salt Lake City, UT. Liki was born on August 10, 1936 in Feletoa, Vava’u, Tonga to Sioeli Kauvaka Sika and Melenaite Tonga Ngata. He was a hardworking and generous man. He was known for giving to his family and friends without ever worrying about getting it back. He gave freely and lived freely too, doing things on his own time. He could be blunt at times and had a straightforward personality, which stemmed from worrying about the well-being of those around him. But he loved a good laugh and was happy to joke around. He was a man of God who lived his Gospel as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed reading his scriptures and church books about the history of the Latter-Day Saints. In 1960 he came to Hawaii on his first labor mission to build what is now known as the Polynesian Culture Center located in Laie, Hawaii. Many knew of his company, LK Contractors, which he used to build many beautiful homes and establishments. He went on to have four children: Mary (Sesilia, Daeana, Travis, Melanie, Naite), Steven (Bernadine, Steven, Semisi, Kaleolani, Nephi), Daniel (Sitini, Tanoa, Jonah, Maile, Bryan, Howard, Rigdon), and Martin. In his later years, Liki could be seen showing off his dance moves at family gatherings. He could also be found at the tennis courts or playing pickleball with friends. He was very active in his life and did everything he could to stay in shape. He also loved to take pictures with his loved ones and had many photos hung around his apartment of his family. He was a father who loved his family and the legacy he worked hard to build. He will always be cherished and remembered as a man who gave his all for the service of others.
Liki is survived by his three sons, Steven Kauvaka (Sa’ane), Daniel Kauvaka (Alishia), Martin Kauvaka (Loa), 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Kauvaka, and his 12 siblings: S. Moleni, Amelia Moli Mahi, Tevita Siola’a, Semitic Pahulu, Mosese Katiloka, Viliami Lolohea, Sione Maka’afi, Alipate Measi’i, Fine Mateaki, Teisa Palu, Losaline Tu’a, and Emeline Finau.
