Leslie Gayle Lund
1925 ~ 2015
It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend Leslie Gayle Lund, age 90, on Saturday, August 29, 2015. He passed away while doing one of his favorite things, fishing with his grandson Brian. Born March 11, 1925 in Salt Lake City to George H. and Amy Strange Lund. Married Lorraine Bridge November 24, 1946. He served with pride during WWII in the Army Air Corps 11th Bombardment Group, 7th Air Force, in the Pacific Theater. He retired as a Teamster after 32 years. He also worked at Hill AFB as an F-16 electrician and as a security guard for CBI.
Gayle is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine; daughter Geneal (Dave) Walk; grandson Brian Walk; granddaughter Debra (Robert) Jones, great-granddaughters, Danielle (Shelby) Thompson, Veronica and Samantha Jones and great-great grandson Aaron Thompson. Preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Debra, brothers, Clee and Warren Lund and sisters, Idonna Astill and Virginia King.
Gayle had a love of golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, spending winters in Mexico, and Yuma, AZ. But most of all, Gayle’s passion was his family. His happiest moments were spent together as a family.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City. Loved ones and friends may pay respects at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, from 6-8pm on Wednesday and again at 11:30 am on Thursday at the mortuary.
