Leslie Allen Holt, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home on October 17. He was born on December 21, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leslie Samuel and Leona Irene Holt. He attended South High School and married his high school sweetheart, Marie Knowles, on June 4, 1954. The two of them are together again.
Allen was a larger than life, Jack-of-all-Trades who was never afraid to tackle new things. He always said he was too dumb to know any better, but in truth he was a smart man gifted with many talents for building and repairing almost anything. Allen loved meeting people and sharing stories, and he was still telling jokes and teasing his care givers right up to the end. Allen shared a lifetime of adventures with Marie, his family and his friends through traveling, camping, snow skiing, boating, fishing, backpacking, ghost-towning, motorcycle touring, sky-diving, bowling, gardening and sharing the family’s mountain cabin property with others.
In his youth, Allen spent his summers working with the US Forest Service. After graduating high school, he started his own television and electronics repair business in Brigham City, Utah. Allen served in the US Naval Reserve from 1952 to 1960 as Electricians Mate Third Class. He worked for Cummins and Thermo King Intermountain for over 45 years.
Allen is survived by his two sisters, Phyllis Player and Ilene Speck, his children, Joyce (Lynn) Holdeman, Michael (Gaye) Holt, Deyonne (Russ) Andrus, William (Liz) Holt, Lisa (Carlos) Taylor-Swanson, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and the many, many people who looked to him as a father and a friend and called him Papa.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother and wife.
In lieu of a funeral and memorial service, there will be a celebratory wake to share stories and memories about Allen on Sunday, October 29, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Memorial Mountain View, 3115 E 7800 S, Cottonwood Heights.
