Leroy Grant Gibson, 1948 To 2022

June 7, 1948 — July 9, 2022

Leroy Gibson passed away July 9, 2022, after a long, stoic, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Price, Utah on June 7, 1948, to Jesse (“Hoot”) and Marian (Paulson) Gibson. He was raised by a single coal-miner father, with one younger brother, in a two-bedroom house warmed with a lump coal stove. He and his brother Larry were fourteen months apart and were inseparable, prank-plotting mischief makers. Elvain and Ethel Gibson, an aunt and uncle (who have both passed), also played a significant role in helping Hoot raise the boys.
In 1967, Leroy graduated from Carbon High School in June and, shortly thereafter, he married his friend and his life-long sweetheart, Carol Powell. They married on August 6, 1967 and were together for nearly fifty-five years. Leroy retired from the Salt Lake City Water Department after thirty years of service. He then worked for Kopper View Mobile Home Park, providing park maintenance for ten years. But his life-long hobby and side-hustle was selling tools at the Redwood Drive-in swap meet on weekends.
Leroy was a loving, dedicated husband and caretaker to Carol for over twenty years. She was the love of his life, and her well-being was his priority until the end.  He was a protective brother, a loving fun uncle, and a true friend to many. His other passions in life were dessert and treats, tools, old western shows (Gunsmoke, Bonanza, anything John Wayne), the WWE “Wrastles,” the Denver Broncos, four-wheeling, camping, fishing, and teasing everyone.
He is missed dearly by his wife, Carol, and his brother Larry (Mimi), his nieces and nephews, Dianna, Anna (Mike), Brian (Jillion), Sylvia (Ben), seven great nieces and nephews, his cousin Peggy (Ken), and many beloved family and friends.
A viewing will be held at Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road, on July 18, 2022, at 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 and the burial at 3:00.
